We need an update on your back splash woman!!

You were goin' full steam on that puppy, things were looking great and you had even chosen grout color.

Ain't heard another peep outta you about it. What happend?

Is it finished? Is it being featured in some big magazine? Did a wealthy oil tycoon offer you a bazillion dollars for it???

Enquiring minds want to know!!!

Here's our little "watch puppy" whipping us into shape. Yeah, MM - get w/it. You KNOW how we are. I've been wondering about the status of that wonderful "first project" too.

    Ya, What They said...!

You caught me; I've slumped. I've got SO much going on (too much partying, actually...like every weekend from now til New Years)
I haven't gotten back to it in over a week! Here's the long & short of it...

Update...well, I grouted pieces 1 & 2...I think you saw that post. Well, after that, I decided to grout the 3rd piece. It was horrendous. The sea glass was a total disaster, and I had to hack it all off back to the substrate so there's this gigunta HOLE in it now that I have to refill with something else. Needless to say, I WILL be choosing grout colors BEFORE I add anything like that from now on so I can get the colored adhesive and not HAVE to grout that stuff. Even the bristle-brushes didn't work.

THEN there was the fiasco with the "Grout Haze remover" on piece #2 Well, kids, there's a REASON they say to use a q-tip and not get it all over everything else CUZ IT TURNS YOUR GROUT WHITE!!! Back to Grout-Square-One on that piece...I rubbed as best I could the second time so that there wouldn't BE grout-haze.
Then I sealed those 2 pieces.

Piece #3 still sits with a sign on it saying "Clean Fill Wanted" for the space where the sea glass was.

This all took place on the afternoon of the 1st, party that night, then I was so mad about Saturday's events that I just putzed around the house on Sunday, and didn't work on it; THIS weekend was clean-the-house-up-fast-and-cook-cuz-we've-got-company-coming-at-5pm, and yesterday I spent in the ER because I inhaled too much Carpet Fresh and got "Chemical Pneumonitis." I've been trying to convince DH since yesterday that cleaning the house is detrimental to my health, so I can't do it anymore, but he's not buying it.
I'm not recommending Carpet Fresh "Fresh Scent" to anyone, and tossed it.

So that's it. Thanks so much for keeping me in your loop; it's nice to know people are thinking of you. I do have a party Sat night, but hopefully will be able to FINISH this thing by the end of the weekend. It NEEDS to be finished.

Oh MY! You've had your problems. And I thought it w/be installed by now. Good that you're particular and want to get it juuuuuuuust right. We anxiously await it's finish.

Oh yeah, party on!!! You will finish it when you get "a round tuit", maybe you will get one for Christmas. I agree with you on the housework, definitely detrimental to your health! However, I am hosting a party at my house on the 22nd, need to get the projects off the dining table soon. Guess I'd better get started...Can't wait to see the finished project though, keep us posted.

Have you tried looking for a support group for your Carpet Fresh "problem", or do we need to do an intervention? LOL!!!

Glad to get an update. Sorry (not really) about pestering you about it, but I was looking at my kitchen the other day thinking about you and your project. You are sooo inspiring me to try my backsplash area! I didn't even think about the sea glass problem. I haven't tried anything that would soak up grout color YET. Sounds like a nightmare!
I've never heard of grout haze remover, or had the need for it, but I think someone here uses vinegar for that.
Keep us posted on your progress!

when I was a kid, I crawled under my bed looking for a toy and the fumes from the carpet made me pass out.

Beach glass should be coated with an impregnating sealer before grouting. and yes vinegar works on grout haze but not when it gets into the miro crevaces of a surface

    MaryMary, Carpet Fresh is scary,
    Grout Haze Remover's a "NO",
    "Chemical Pneumonitis"
Now there's one to fright us,
But Party Girl's still on the Go!

    :D
