Another gray question! :-)

I am painting my bedroom and also have a paint question concerning grays! My carpet is a silvery gray, similary to BM Silver Fox. My furniture is a medium oak, kind of a farmhouse style. My woodwork is golden oak. I am using a cream colored solid quilt with no real color on the bed, at least for now. I'm finding the grays to be a little too contemporary for my furniture. I've tried the Sandy Hook Gray and the Edgecomb Gray (which isn't really gray -- but maybe that's ok). Any suggestions about what wall color would look good with gray carpet and golden oak trim? I'm really open to all suggestions -- this room is a hard one! Hoping you all can give me some of your ideas as your rooms always look so wonderful!

It seems to me that silver carpet and medium oak are not very coordination. If you just like it then my suggestion is to paint wall with white or some light color, this will let carpet and wall more coordination. Otherwise, you can make wall dull purple, this will let your furniture and wall more coordination. It's for your reference only.

Oh yes, laofeng, I think the color you are suggesting is BM SPAM.

kturner, I think you will need a gray that has brown undertones in it. I know that as much as some people always are suggesting REvere Pewter, I'm always suggesting the paint colors from the strip that has Baltic Gray on it.

I needed a gray that would work up against a brown dining room, and I have oak foyer floors. We went with Baltic Gray, and I have been using colors from that strip all over.

Also, the colors in my family room are similar but it was pre BM Baltic Gray discovery, and I used Valspar's Coastal Villa. When you look at it on the strip it doesn't really even hit you as a "gray".

Not suggesting you do this, but have you ever thought about gel staining the oak furniture to a dark rich color? I have those orangey oak vanities and I have been gel staining them--talk about transforming a piece of furniture! I'm currently staining a NEW dresser that I bought from Home Goods (originally a $2000 Drexel Heritage piece, bought it for $249 - nobody wanted it due to its' ugly color. I think it was from the "Super Ugly Collection")

Good luck. Not sure I helped you out at all. But at least I didn't suggest you try spreading SPAM on the walls....

lol at Bee....I got spammed, too. You gave her great ideas and I need a warm gray, too, so will definitely be checking out the Baltic Gray. :)

Thanks, Bee! I read that first response thinking, what the heck? Purple!? Ha! I will definitely check out the Baltic Gray/Coastal Villa, how do they compare to each other? Which is darker? It's a large room with one big window but it never seems to get alot of light. My furniture is the attic heirlooms/broyhill collection. I still like the color of that -- but it's that woodwork/trim! Orangey oak, ugh! Might try the gel stain on that -- would really love to change it out but DH is happy with it. Last summer I painted the fireplace in this room a creamy white -- today I'm off to look at those paint colors and pick out some kind of tile to cover a gray cement raised hearth. Wish me luck and thanks for the suggestions!

I would look at grays with a little green in them: BM clarksville gray, fieldstone or arctic shadows, nantucket gray.
