Look what I found!

A few weeks ago, I saw this sideboard on the Sundance website (linked below). I fell in love . I thought it would be perfect for our entry foyer but it cost $1750 + $400 for shipping. It wasn't meant to be. The following week, I saw this table in Home Goods. It must be made by the same folks. But I wasn't sure if I should purchase it. After visiting Home Goodsa couple of times to see if it was still there, I went ahead and bought it. Here it is:

Should I keep it? Is the wall hanging too high? Any advice on creating a tablescape? I think I will get a lamp to put on the right end.

Wow, I love this type of furniture. You might consider dropping the hanging down a bit. I would add some weight in the corners, similar to long drapes.

Wow! That was just meant to be yours! I can't believe you found something soooo close to the Sundance one. I think the wall hanging may be a tad high, but not enough to mess up your wall by lowering it. If you can lower it 2-3 inches and not mess the wall up, then yes, I'd vote for that. If you can't, maybe a chunkier set of books and something bigger on the right to take up some of the space between the top of the buffet and the bottom of the wall hanging.

    Looks REALLY great!

Nice find! A locally owned home store has a lot of this furniture. It is not selling well. They've had for several months! If DD2 needed more pieces, I would have snapped her up at least one.

Agree, the wall hanging needs to go lower. I like the bowl/books. The vase is too small and the candle (?) is lost. A decent sized lamp for sure.

I love every "piece" you have in your photo (the sideboard, the wall hanging, the rug) but for some reason all 3 together don't work for me -- of course it's probably me, but I feel each piece should stand out more and they tend to blend all together in my eyes -- I'd like to see a big, rustic iron mirror or something over the sideboard as this great sideboard is a real stand out.......and I would put the wall hanging somewhere else to be the show piece in and of itself - it's beautiful but again, in my eyes, it seems to disappear into the rug and sideboard. Fabulous find!

I hesitate to make these sort of comments because you didn't ask us if the wall hanging should stay, but I have to say I agree with lukajoey somewhat. I like the furniture piece and the rug, but the wall hanging isn't working for me in that spot. It almost echoes the rug too much. Otherwise -- great find!! I love the Sundance catalog but the prices are always too steep for me.

I like all 3 items as you have them now. I think you do need to add some weights to the corners of the wall hanging. I like the height as long as you add something tall to the top of the table like a couple of buffet lamps. Great find!!!

I know little about tablescaping or wall hangings (will be posting my own questions soon enough), so I can't give any advice there, but I wanted to post to say congratulations on your great find!

Definitely a keeper! I may have to go to Homegoods today- just to play.

You need a more rustic vase and flowers, in tones that blend with the rug and hanging ... something with more height and heft to it. the current vase is too pale and the flowers are yellow-green. Something in basketry or terra cotta with rust and maroon flowers.

The vase would be one thing to bridge the gap between the handing and the top of the furniture.

if that's in your foyer, add a small chest with drawers, or a couple of boxes or baskets to hold keys, outgoing mail and other stuff you tend to need at the doorway.

I like it, too! You should be proud for finding it!

I really like the table and the tapestry, and the suggestions made here. To get more ideas on accessorizing it in a spectacular way, have you visited our Foyer and Hallway Eye Candy thread in the gallery?

what a great find! It was meant to be there :) I would lower the wall hanging a bit, and agree about the items on the table being a little chunkier.

    Beautiful table- congrats

An amazing trade-off! I'm like you and think most furniture is way over-priced and I wait until I find the same or close at a much more reasonable price. I love Home Goods!! I have a wall that is 15 feet long (it's the center hallway in a 1780 colonial). I just picked up a 5 piece wall unit on craigslist for $200!!! I've been very patient for 6 months waiting to find what I liked at a price I liked and I did :) And you did too.

    Perfect!

I'm with Lukajoey...move the hanging, and add a big mirror and a substantial (in bulk - not tall and thin) lamp, and a generous basket or tray...move the vase elsewhere. The strong style calls for a few big things rather than a lot of little ones.

I love the sideboard and the wall hanging. To me, they both express a kind of bohemian chic. But you need a more suitable tablescape. And I agree that you should go big and chunky. Go for a mixture of high and low and try grouping similar things together for more impact. A big lamp that you love. Big candles in holders, a big wicker, wood, or pottery bowl or tray, some stacked books, a plant, a sculpture, that sort of thing. Look at pictures of pottery barn console tables for inspiration.

    update:

Here's what the foyer looks like now. I switched out the rug, added the lamp and moved the candle holder. What do your think? BTW, it's been a great storage unit for board games.
