I don't think I would do solid red, but a print or stripe with reds, browns/beiges/cream would be pretty.

I forgot to mention that I have 2 windows. One is 6' and the other one (behind the sink) is 4'.

There are some great bold print drapery fabrics out there these days. How about something that combines your brown and white with red as a tertiary color? Of course, you don't say anything about your style, so I'm wondering if a men's wool flannel with red pinstripes on brown would be more like it, or would you prefer dancing red dinosaurs on crisp white? (I love curtains for making all things possible.)

I like the stripe idea and the bringing together of the red with the neutrals. I am thinking, maybe roman shades or natural shades (to bring in texture and the red accent). There are some nice options on the Bali Blinds site. Several fabrics look like they bring the reds in, but it is hard to tell if it is rust or red. They send free swatches, order a few and see what you think. I liked Cotton Stripe Willow #1301, Holiday Sand 2103, Holiday Sunset 2104, Diamond Autumn 1905 and the Natural Shade option of Montego Cherry #61655. They have a virtual Decorator tool that might help and their FB page has an Ask the Expert tool that can help with any questions. It's like a decorators playground. Check it out.

I think red in a print would look fine.
But then, that's what I have! ;)

Our kitchen has a small sink window and a large 'picture window' next to the table.
I got several sets of long panels and cut one into a little valance for the sink window.
Not everyone likes long panels in the kitchen, but it works for me.

Wall color is BM Barley.
