Final vote for runner color please

Hello all - after lots of options and lots of good ideas from the fine folks here, I am down to two options for a carpet runner for my stairs. I figured most wouldn't want to sift through all the ideas so I should start a new thread. Original thread is linked below.

I had been tossing around the idea of a very nice wool tweed vs a diamond synthetic. Most of the votes here were for the wool, and I love it, but have concerns about dog hair and nails being trapped in the texture. So here are the final two color options. The runner will be bound on the sides in the contrast color, so brown for the one on the left and black for the one on the right. I like both so am a bit torn. I think the black may look a tad more contemporary, which is more fitting for taste, but the house is a 1920 center hall colonial.

I voted on the other page but will repost here. I highly prefer the black diamonds!

    Hi Kellienoelle,

I'll vote again: love the black diamonds for your home.

I forget what the living room looks like, other than the zebra rug, but I vote for the brown. You've got a lot of browns going on and I like its mellower, less stark contrast.

Another vote for the black diamonds.

    The black diamonds!

Another vote for black diamond.....Richer looking.

would you share carpet info? I think that would work for my hallway beautifully!

I initially liked the textured solid - but I keep looking at the black diamond -

    Black diamond gets my vote!

Thanks for the votes, the black is the one that I have been leaning towards so it is nice to get a little bit of validation that it will look OK. I swear I have probably put more effort into this darn runner than when I last bought a car! I feel pretty good about it though, I think it will wear well with the doggies and that is the primary concern.

snookums, the living room actually has a bit of black in it. I actually love black. The dining room on the right, however, has none. Perhaps I need to find a way to sneak some in.

pcweary - the carpet is Masland Tristan, it comes in over 20 colors. Which obviously has been part of the problem for me in making a final choice.

Both would work and are very nice choices, but I prefer the brown diamonds.

I like the black. Love the contrast and will look great with binding. I had a wool runner with black diamonds in my old apt. Here is pic (only one I could find):

We just moved into a 30's center hall Colonial. Was going to go with same but decided to do a wool that was sisal-like and add black binding. Here is a pic (wallpaper will be changed out one day!):

i also like the black diamonds...
in the pic on the steps, the brownish diamonds seems to have a slight pinkish cast which doesn't look as good with the steps and walls...
the 2nd from left in the bottom pic would be my 2nd choice.

I like that the black diamonds complement the tile. Since they tie together, it looks more planned and designed....

Your beautiful dogs seem to like posing in all your pictures. Since the dogs have more black fur, I'd go with the black diamond runner to match. See, that was easy!

mamorella - your runner looks great! I particularly envy the dark risers that you have on your stairs. Not so much the wall paper (although I kind of like the tone on tone floral to be honest, it is retro up to date, if that makes sense). Stripping wallpaper just may be one of my least favorite jobs ever!

    Definitely black diamonds.

Another vote for the black diamonds. Crisper and I think better with the natural oak color.

@kellienoelle, thanks! I really love it. I have to say, I love my runner that I had in my old apt much more but I want to go fun and funky with wallpaper in the hallway so I thought it better to not have any pattern on the runner. Also, the serging I had in my apt was much nicer than the binding I have now. We moved cross-country and so couldn't use the same people. The runner in my apt is serged with wool thread. They came with the machine into the apt and did it on-site. It is gorgeous. My runner in the house was a project. They didn't know what I wanted or how to achieve it. The owner (nationally franchised carpet store) said the serging machine the other company used was too expensive for him to have on hand and that not many people ask for what I wanted. They did offer cloth border but that was super expensive. Anyway, in the end this is a tape that is sewn on. It looks fine but definitely not as polished as the runner I had. Oh well.

As for the risers, I love them too! We had all the floors in the house redone (except master, which has carpet) before we moved in. Love the dark walnut color!!

No matter which colors you choose, the shed hair will be the opposite color. Soooo, I will happily welcome your pups here since we have given up on that around here (two long-haired pups). They are adorable.

    I like the black diamond.

Mamorella--your steps look nice. How does the rug "hug" the step like that? Where it kind of folds under. Am I making myself question clear?

    Thanks.

    Black diamonds definitely!

@red_lover, good question and I'm not 100% sure! I believe the runner is nailed into the stairs using tiny carpet nails. I didn't really pay attention but I just took a close look and that is what it seems like to me. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Black diamonds is my vote. I always find it so cute when it comes time to take a photo our pets always seem to find their way into the shot! Love the poochies!

I'm going to place the order, but just had a couple of more questions for the carpet guy, I think they said that the edges would be serged, I will double check on that. it is cut from broadloom, so can be any width I specify. What is the recommended amount of wood that should be visible on either side? I am thinking just about 3 inches, but I don't know if it is a standard.

The dogs are enjoying their complements.I may be biased but I sure think they are pretty cute!
