This is real fun. I feel like I am going to a party at everyone's house every time I see another wonderful display.

BH&G magazine, October issue page 148, has an article about garden spirits with some real cute outdoor displays with pumpkins. They have one display with white pumpkins piled one on top of the other, impaled on a stake, and they write the word welcome - one letter on each pumpkin (that would be 7 pumpkins tall) - I would like to do that for my party - hope I have time. They have it stacked up in an old washtub with little pumpkins stuck around too - I wish I had a scanner so you all could see it.

sweets98, what cute country displays and I love your old milk jug and I bet your toy box is really beautiful - how wonderful you still have it. The leaves you are making - how are you doing that - they look festive.

linda1949, that black widow is really, real ! Imagine how I felt last night. DH had already gone to bed, so I thought I would go out on the screen porch to take a few photos to show you all. I was walking around barefoot and then I saw her. I am saving it for DH when he gets home today. He hates black widows and is always scaring me with stories he sees on the medical channel about people bitten by them and having their skin slough off. Yuck !

newhomebuilder, we live in the Sierra foothills in Central California and we have tons of black widows every where, tons of ants and we even have tarantulas. I saw a 4 inch tarantula in the front yard one day. My cat was looking at it, so I quickly scooped it up in something and took it way down to the lower part of the property. Just writing about this is making me squeemish.

I kind of hate killing anything though, I usually carry spiders that are inside the house, to the outside on a broom and shake them off - but the black widow will probably have to be killed - but like I said, I am saving that for DH this evening.

robbyrob and Rich - I saw those gorgeous glazed pumpkins at HomeGoods and now seeing your pictures, I wish I bought them - beautiful! Robbyrob - your porch is perfect!

Georgiagal - those are my kind of decorations, lol - I adore candy corn.

Linda - I will probably see your spider's relations as I garden today - they are prevalent here in So. California - hate those little buggers!

You sound like me. I won't even kill a fly or an ant for that matter - if I can help it. LOL I wouldn't kill the BW either. I'd just relocate it!

The leaves were something I created, at least I think! LOL I didn't find the craft somewhere and get the idea from it, I decided to make them on my own. I found leaves outside, traced them onto paper, used the paper pattern to trace the leaves onto muslin. Then I used watered down paint to paint the muslin, dabbing the paint, mixing many colors like a real leaf.....dried them, drawed the lines on, sewed the lines in and there ya go :) They took longer than I hoped! I have about 8 more maple and oak leaves to finish up and put out.

Koidom, WHERE did you find that crow? I've searched for them high and low!

Paulacat, the Crow came from Michael's. around here they always do a half off sale. so I got him for $5 I also Have a neat decoy one that does well out in the rain for hunters.

Thanks, but my favorite piece is a large stuffed horse I dress up for all hoidays, I swear we have some of the best antique stores in my area, I could not belive it! I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I seen the price was only $1200! apparently it had been used as a prop in a honky tonk and they had to get rid of it becuase drunks kept sitting on it and tearing the hide and pulling off the tail.

I had always wanted a stuffed horse every sense I went to the Roy Rogers museum as a kid and had my picture taken with trigger.

Sad loss for the bar but OH my lucky stars for me!

I put half down to hold it and had to go get my truck and two guy friends to help tie it in the back! LOL I was so worried about it getting broke that I made them ride in the back of the truck to help hold it, and drove ever so slowly home with my prize! and then I wondered how on earth could I ever tell my husband I bhought a stuffed horse? he hated it at first but now it's like it's part of the family. :) I even have the extra bedroom all decorated like a stall so it will have a place to rest when the hoidays are over.

Oh gosh! The horse beats my witch! That's a REAL stuffed horse! I thought you were talking about a stuffed (as in stuffed animal) horse and couldn't understand why you would spend $1200. Then, I saw the photos.

There are some very creative folks here, I have enjoyed looking at all of your posts. Here are a couple of ours and while our house needs trim put up, the range hood installed, touch up painting in just about every room and goddesses know how many more things, we have abandoned those projects for a few weeks and started decorating.

I bought more pumpkins and fall garland today. Also, mums and pansies. I plan to make the pumpkin topiaries tomorrow (while waiting for my son to come home from college. His on fall break and hasn't been home in three months.) I am also going to enlist his help in making a pumpkin man (like a scarecrow with a pumpkin head.)

sandyponder, love all your holiday vignettes. We have been working on our house for three years and still have some molding and baseboards in the livingroom this evening. But after this week, we are saying the heck with it too and are having a party next weekend. Where is that wonderful view in the first photo?

I went to walmart today and there were no skeletons - a couple of skeleton hands or a bag of loose bones, but I want a complete skeleton. I am going to check out Target tomorrow.

The maple tree is spectacular and so is the view. I have one maple which turned already and dropped its leaves. My other two maple are just now turning. All three are the same variety and were planted at the same time.

Lovely porch decors and topiaries all of them. So many talented and creative folks here.

i did it again! ... springvillagegarden, i have the worst habit of almost always saying *walmart* when in actuality i meant to say *WALGREENS* ... the skeleton in the last picture i posted is from this season ... he is wonderfully flexible, as you can see from my picture, & i have FOUR vignettes featuring him in different poses ...

they are only $2.50 & all the WALGREENS around here still have them in stock ... sorry for the unnecessary trip to the *other* wal place! ... phyl

Your wreath reminded me of this really cool large black wreath made of feathers, I believe, at Target that I would've had to have if our door was red or white. Our door is too dark so the black wreath wouldn't be noticed, darnit! The wreath is very plain, just the black feathers, but so unique!

Thanks for noticing my baby, err, hutch. I bought it from a kitchen place that was replacing their Wood Mode displays, it was a great bargain, tho it was sort of a pickled brown. I sanded and painted it and we use it in lieu of upper kitchen cabs (of which we have none) for everyday dish storage. There are glass doors which have yet to be installed (someday).

phyl345, no problem I had to go to wallyworld anyway to get plates and cups for my tour today and dinner group this Saturday. I will check out walgreens if I have time before Saturday, after that I am collapsing. I did get some outdoor ghost lights from the grocery and a plastic lighted pumpkin at Walmart to hang up - hope they look good Saturday.

My sister and mother own a flower shop and they recently had a job to decorate a bat mitzvah party. I thought their centerpieces were so clever for a boy at this time of year.

I meant Bar Mitzvah...it was for a boy! The room was decortated with tons of scary props...even some full sized monsters standing around and laying across the buffet tables! With so many "girlie" ideas out there...I thought this one was over the top!

karezz, the pictures in your other post show up ... any idea what makes the red x show up sometimes ... and sometimes not?

I don't know why some of you cannot see them. They show up fine on my pc when I return to this thread. :(
