Area Rug question

We are purchasing an area rug from PB and it will be going on a hard, ceramic tile floor in our family room. I was thinking to help make the area even more cushioned we could layer a non-slip pad, then a carpet pad from HD, and then the area rug on top. When I talked to the guy at HD, he said that the rug pad could scratch and stick to the tile and ruin it. My idea completely baffled him as if he could not believe my idiocy. LOL.

Is this true? Or, could I line the tile with some type of plastic and then do my layers? Or...is this a terrible idea? :) All ideas or suggestions welcome!
