What's interesting is that kitchen is not at all purely traditional or period. Overlay cabs. Sleek counters, sleek electric (or induction?) range. Yet it really has the vibe of a very comfortable vintage kitchen.

I'm trying to identify the reason why. Obviously there are period touches, and those help--the brackets, lighting, tshotschkes. Painted green cabs also help. And I think fabric on windows is crazy vintage, what with everyone else going naked and acting like they live on a 500 acre wildlife preserve in Montana.

That may even inspire me to find fabric I love and get the roman shades done. I have all the parts, just need to make a decision!

Nice. It's the kind of kitchen that would have shown up in the late, lamented Cottage Licing. Man, I miss that magazine.

Ahem. Now that's a limited interest focus. I can kind of see why it folded.

In one of my jobs I had to deal with diagnosing school-wide epidemics - can't imagine a whole magazine devoted to the subject. Particularly if limited to lice residing in cottages - very narrow field of pertinent articles....

Yes, sallysue, but think of all the regional variations on cottages: French Provincial lice, Bungalow mites, Storybook scabies, East Anglian earwigs, etc...

STOP!!!! I'm getting the heebie jeebies!
DD just brought home a school notice of an outbreak. She very proudly informed me that they had a lice check, and she passed. I told her it was the tea tree oil/eucalyptus oil mixure that I throw in all their shampoo bottles every spring and fall, and don't forget to shampoo twice tonight!

And the kitchen is very nice, too. Like the green, and the way she has the photos labelled for easy shopping reference.

Beautiful designs. One of hers was featured in a several page article in Southern Living. I still have that magazine saved b/c I loved the whole first floor layout and design soo much. It was a Feb edition I believe 2010 or 2009. I recall the use of Tapestry Beige paint by BM in that space.

Devil's advocate here...if you delete the stuff and just consider the layout, the permanent and semi-permanent materials, and the color scheme, what's so good about this kitchen?

I think she makes the most of a limited budget by leaving counters and appliances in place. (speaking as someone who likes the paint color and decorative items. not cottage lice though.)

circuspeanut - I think East Anglian earwigs sounds sorta adorable :)

juniork - sorry about the outbreak - tea tree/eucalyptus is my prevention remedy as well! To continue wildly OT, if your kid ever gets them I have four words of advice: "skip chemicals / pull nits."

marcolo - I agree - the choices of old stuff, fabric, color and chrome all speak vintage, despite all the new stuff.

forantha - good question, I think I like the mixture of old and new, and the smallness. I have a small kitchen, and I like small. I have 6 small upper cabs 4 lower and a set of deep drawers - in the month I have had this kitchen I bet I only regularly use half of them. Also like the invented island using the work table adn the painted tongue and groove instead of backsplash tile. The thing I miss most about my old kitchen is all the wood walls - you can put up anything on them. Tile, not so much :)

I think the kitchen is charming. The first pix, before the kitchen photos, of all white look stunning, but I don't know if I'd trust myself not to make stains with all that white, much less the boys and dh!

Wow. Absolutely love that kitchen! It feels artless, personal, and not "decorated," but everything meshes so beautifully together.

(Now if only I could stop itching. After the bedbug/MRSA article I read tonight, I'm a bit spooked.)

That kitchen is wonderful! I love how it has so much character and is filled with her style, and is so obviously a well-used and loved kitchen.

I don't love that my scalp is now itching like crazy! ;^)
