I think that LED rope lights would work well, but I took the easier option of using fluorescent fixtures, since i wanted the most energy efficient possible, and it is a very viable option as well. My whole kitchen in fluorescent, so it was not a major sacrifice for me.

I have xenon strips for my under cabinet lighting and just want some accents for the ceiling area. I think I will try some rope lighting to see if it will be the right effect. I first tried fluorescent strips for undercabinet lights, but then switched them for xenon because the lighting changed the look of my granite and backsplash. I guess it depends on the coloring and natural light in the room.
