We just finished renovating our kitchen and have a nice big eat-in area (it's about 8x12). We are contemplating getting a rug to go under the table to keep from having too many scratches on the dark bamboo floor, but we also don't want to cover the entire floor with a rug! The table with both leaves inside is 8.5 wide, and 3.5 deep. I've attached a picture which sort of shows the eat-in area. We are wondering if it would be weird to get a rug that JUST fits under the table, but not the chairs (which have those soft pad things on the feet). We're leaning toward a 5x9 rug. Again - would that be weird to have one that small? All the pics I see on Houzz show rugs that go far beyond the chairs and cover the whole floor.
