Ceiling fans?

Anybody doing ceiling fans in kitchens anymore? I've had a ceiling fan in the kitchen in the last three houses I've been in. But I don't see many in the kitchen pictures posted here. We won't have AC, so a fan is nice for keeping some air moving while cooking.

We'll have recessed cans around the perimeter of the countertop...but I was thinking of a fan/light in the center? Good idea? Too cheesy looking?

Thanks...

We had to "fight" our electrician to put one in (according to him, he does "all high-end kitchens and nobody does ceiling fans anymore"). Well, this kitchen was going to have a ceiling fan, no matter what!

    Here's ours:

I am. I know they aren't in style and I don't care. I'm not going to sweat to death in the kitchen or keep the AC on 12 months a year just to make a fashion statement. If you want one, get one.

cat_mom, yours is great. I'd seen that in a catalog and thought, "who'd want that?" but it looks fabulous in your kitchen.

We've been using ours almost every evening since it got warmer here--love it! I can tell you right now, if/when we ever sell the house, it won't be included in the sale!

I put a small one in our new galley style,I'm now remodeling. I originally put in can lights and then removed one and put a 36" one in that spot.

I have two in my kitchen, on either side of the pendants over the island. They're going non-stop during the summer...I'd be very cranky without them. I KNOW they reduce my energy bill!

I'm planning to use two ceiling fans in my remodel and have decided which ones I want. Just waiting for them to go on sale!

We just got our ceiling fan reconnected yesterday when all the electrical (well, almost all) was finally finished and connected. It's a classis Hunter, black motor and wood blades, that we put in to replace a hideous faux wicker job that was there when we moved in 14 years ago. The fan was still in good shape but our architect assumed we wouldn't put it back up. My husband, not usually one for details, noticed it missing from the electrical plan and complained. I posted here and got so many, "of course you can have a ceiling fan in the kitchen and I wouldn't be without mine" responses that we put it back in (and reduced the number of cans at the same time). With temps here above 100 for the last month we were glad to crank it on last night. And it looks fine amidst the splendor that is soon to be our new kitchen (well it looks splendid to me; you all will have to judge when I have finished pics to post in a couple of weeks).

Gotta have a fan. Use it a lot, but it does disturb the flames; it can be aimed not to, but then it doesn't cover the whole space.

Now those are "cool" looking fans. My ceilings won't be high enough for something like that, but I do like both of those!

I had originally planned on one, but then you start second guessing all the decisions you've been making....it's very frustrating! Thanks for the feedback.

Fans have been out of favor style-wise for a while now, but I put them in the last house and our new house. They reduce your electric bill and keep the air moving, and there are a lot of great new styles out there these days. When you live in a hot climate, fans are a necessity!

I feel like I hit on the perfect ceiling fan for us and I have installed 5 of these suckers in the last 3 years. The Minka Aire Concept II in white - if you have white ceilings (I always do) it blends into the ceiling and isn't much of a statement. But it is incredibly effective...I pretty much can't put it on high, feels like a hurricane!

Our kitchen's size -- 10 x 15, more or less -- meant a ceiling fan/light would pretty much have to take center stage.

Our kitchen's budget led us to the Hampton Bay [Home Depot] fans; we bought several to use throughout the house and they've been great over the last 4 - 5 years.

I have one - it's actually the only thing I kept from my old kitchen. I have ceiling fans for the functional value not not for their appearance. In fact mine is white and kind of just blends in with the white ceiling. I have to say though there is something I really like about a ceiling fan silently circling overhead even if it's not hot.

Yes, we have a city condo so I didn't know it was faux pas!

BoxieBabe--I don't have pix of 'em because they're hanging from the ceiling at Menards. But they look very similar to the one House_Vixen just posted.

Nice fan, House_Vixen! BTW, your backsplash tile is the most amazing tile I've ever seen! I've been drooling over it for months.

Awww, thanks! I can say that 4 years later, I still smile every time I see it. I'm going in a *slightly* different direction for our bathroom accent tile, but it will still be straight off the Magpie Merry-go-round!
