Some questions for your gurus:

1. I love pendant lighting, but don't have an island (the little table I'll have will be moved around a lot). Is it weird to have pendant lights hanging over just the "standing" space? (ie, the space between the sink area and table/fridge area, and the space between the wall oven/cooktop area and the table area - see attached designs). Does anyone have this in their kitchen? Pics?

I'll also have spots, and it's a small kitchen - overkill??

2. Small kitchen and matchstick type backsplash - better to lay it vertically or horizontally? (I like vertical much better, but a couple of people have said a horizontal layout will visually "open the space").
