Pot rack wall??

I'm thinking of doing a "wall" (36 inches of space) that has a shelf and hooks for pots, but I'd rather have the pots flush against the wall instead of sticking out on a pot rack. Anyone have pictures of this or have this in your kitchen? I saw a picture of this in House Beautiful not all that long ago but I can't remember which issue it was in.

I don't have it.. but I saw it in Julia and Julia (a replica of Julia Child's actual kitchen). I was soooooo tempted to do that myself. You could google her kitchen for some inspiration. She used Peg Board and Magic Marker to actually outline her pans!

I don't have her cool pans, but it was indeedy inspiring.

I have pegboard for my pots and pans. I love how it works. I'll post a pic later.

We've had one for the past 7 yrs; great, functional, and oh-so-easy.

I will miss it in our new house, as there was no way to replicate it d/t layout.
Husband just purchased pegboard from HD, framed the area, and then painted. Easy and I think we spent no more than $150 for the whole item (parts and paint).

    girlonafarm-

Here's a pic of the wall o' pans in our pantry, it's very handy. We used hooks from the dollar store, not pegboard, but it's the same result. The larger pots are above on a rack, we put the frying pans and not so deep pots on the wall. The room is 29" wide with a 5" shelf for canned goods on one side, the pans on the other. The room is so small it doesn't photograph well, but hopefully you can get an idea.

    Good luck-

Julia Child's kitchen is now an exhibit at the Smithsonian - I saw it last year while visiting DC, but they have an interactive "tour" on their website at:

Thanks for all the inspiration! Sandy - I love your pantry! Thanks for posting some pics for me.
I'm really considering this option because I love to cook and have lots of nice pots and pans that I could display this way. I think I'd also really appreciate the convenience of having everything at my fingertips instead of digging things out from cabinets.

I have a large window that serves as the only unused space in the room to hang pots. There is a bar (iron pipe, actually) mounted at the top of the window trim & another hanging from the ceiling about a foot in front of it (screwed into a joist). I've considered adding another bar to the bottom half of the window but don't have enough 'good' pans to justify losing the light.

This is what came to mind from your description---but that may just be because I'm trying to decide if I can use them myself!

See the 2nd picture of the kitchen in this link. A very nice look, I think, and handy, too.

I chose to use the hooks for some utensils, but could easily have hung the pots too. This one is super cheap stainless from Ikea and we are loving it.

LOVE IT! And I just realized I have a suitable wall.

I feel stoopid for not realizing that the answer to my skillet problem was hiding under an under-used cork board.

love this thread !! I remember loving Julia's wall in that in the movie... hmmm..

Jeffrey Bilhuber has one of those walls in his kitchen in the June House Beautiful. I had one in a house when I was an undergrad decades ago. Those walls are wonderful.

I have two racks that are similar to the one in rhome's link. They're called utensil racks from Enclume and come in about 6 different lengths and a few finishes. Mine are 48". (DH mounted them with boards underneath because our wall studs didn't match up with the holes in the rack...boards are bolted to studs, rack is bolted to boards=strong)

This might be the one you are looking for - I loved it as well and kept it in my favs file.

Be patient - it takes a while to load.

Where is everyone storing the lids for the hanging pots?

House Beautiful newest issue has an article on Jeffrey Bilhber and his new home/kitchen. He has a pot rack wall:

    snout-

We store ours in the big yellow drawer to the right of the range (top one, bottom is for blender, FP, hand mixer). Sadly, there wasn't enough width to house the lids from my big stock pots in those nifty holder thingers, so they just kind of get jumbled in there, but at least they're accessible from the stove.

Snout, I don't have hanging pots, but I do keep pots and pans in their own drawers and have a separate drawer for lids. It's not ideal, as I now think I'd like to have them organized a bit, like standing up, similar to tray storage, but my drawer isn't tall enough for that....So they just sort of nest/stack...Glass lids in front, all-metal lids behind.

Snout, I have bars mounted close to the wall in the backsplash area behind the range and the lids are suspended beween the bar & the wall with the knobs/handles resting on the bar. The ones that are too big, go in the pantry. A little of it shows in my post above although mostly what you can see are a few utensils hanging in front of the lids.
