Counter will interfere with fridge door opening!

Our french door counter depth fridge door will hit the granite and not be able to open properly if the granite is installed with a one inch bullnose over hang. The granite guys said they install with a one inch over hang. What is the minimum overhang for a counter top? Should I go with a half bullnose and just have it come out to just cover the cabinets and drawers? Please advise! They did their template on Thursday and we figured it out that it would not work earlier tonight.

Personally, I'd pull the refrigerator out an inch instead of modifying the granite overhang. Only one inch? Most overhangs are 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" to be sure the door/drawer is completely covered plus a little more. (This is to protect your cabinets & the doors & drawer fronts from spills.)

To fully open, the doors of the vast majority of cabinet-depth refrigerators must extend out past the surrounding cabinets, walls, and counters. I'm surprised your Kitchen Designer didn't catch this in the design and put in some kind of filler or pull the refrigerator out.

Are you able to pull the refrigerator out? Is it installed? If not, you may be OK if you need around an inch or so of room behind it for the plug, water line, and anti-tip device...that would push your refrigerator away from the wall a bit.

My husband was able to stop the granite cutting and they are coming back to remeasure. We are going to go with a half bullnose and this way it will not have to come out as far. It is a tiny kitchen and the fridge already sticks out a few inches and we did not have a KD, which is one of our problems.. But thank you!

We are being templated right at this minute. I raced down stairs with my laptop to show him. He said there had never been a problem before, but I had him do the radius like boxerpups suggested. No one will notice it is there except for us and if it helps I am all for it. I don't know if we will have a frig issue as the applicances are in a warehouse in MD. Better safe then sorry I guess.

Thank you boxerpups! Your cabinets are very similar to mine! When the counter is in we will also have a tiny bit of the drawer showing like yours. There will be about 14 inches of counter that only hang over the drawer by 3/4 inches, the rest will hang over a full inch. That portion of couner covers one drawer and part of the lazy susan cabinet. It was a very close call! Good luck Allie!
