Kitchen layout

I have a pretty small kitchen and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for maximizing my space. I would like to have more countertop room. I would also prefer to have a better functioning pantry. Currently, the pantry is the tall cupboard, but I don't like that it sticks out beyond the counter. I would prefer a way to make it longer in width and not so deep. The main problem I have is that my house is on a slab foundation, so it would cost way too much to move my sink. So, with that in mind, any suggestions? (the second picture is from before we bought the house, we have already changed out the light fixture!)

I'm no layout guru...lots of those here and hopefully they will give expert advice....but without seeing what's on the other side of the kitchen, the only thing I can come up withfor more countertop space (since you can't move sink) is to put an island where the table is or, also getting rid of table, extend the counter towards the slider on the sink run. Also, could you extend the pantry to where the computer and water cooler is, but make it shallower...it's hard to tell if that wall is straight or if it juts in or out.

Can you upload a floor plan?

The first thing that jumps out at me is the fridge--counter depth or sinking the fridge into the wall behind it come to mind as obvious ways to improve it.

Can you do an island instead of a peninsula? From the perspective shown I can't tell how far it is from sink to wall. Perhaps moving the sink a bit to the left wouldn't be too horrible.

Floor plan with dimensions would be very helpful - show what's behind the fridge, and what you see from the sink.

And what's the deal with the sloped ceiling? What's behind the soffit? The wall in the corner between range and sink - can it be removed?

Sorry, I don't know how to post multiple pics in 1 post. I read the "read me first" and didn't see instructions. So here are additional pics and a rough floorplan sketch.

Use graph paper to draw your layout. 1 square = 1 foot. If you don't have any you can print some on line.

Attached is the correct link on how to post multiple photos.

For more than just picture help, see the Read Me thread (not the "sticky" on the top). I've linked it below. In particular, see the Layout Help topic.

Just throwing out some thoughts pending a floor plan with measurements--
Remove the wall between the DR and LR and flip them.
Don't worry about the sink. It can be moved as long as you can still run the drain line to the current location. You have some flexibility.

I agree with running the end cabinet over to the wall by the slider. A shallow version.
A CD fridge - and most likely FD to keep doors from clunking into anything - or anyone.

you could also probably move the fridge to the left a ft or so (need measurements to determine that). It would add a ft or so of countertop between fridge and stove. You might put a lwr and upper cab to the left of the fridge then w/countertop space for MW (if needed). Then do the rest of the wall area to slider area in tall shallow cab for pantry use. You could do all wall cabinets with mw built into it too. Put a pull out board below mw for landing area.

depending on measurements you might also be able to add a ft to the peninsula (using space where the wastebasket is now).

depending on space on other side of peninsula maybe make the top level of it a bit deeper so easier to sit at to eat. Round the end corners of it in new countertop.

depending on cost you might be able to move the sink down a bit also - to give more space to the cook so they don't bump elbows with the dishdoer...

As dan188 suggested...remove the window wall between LR and DR...put one larger table in corner where couch and floor lamp is instead of formal dining and breakfast nook. Either close off slider in kitchen or make it a window with full length of base cabs and counter with uppers surrounding window...then still utilize desk/water cooler area for wrap around cabs, pantry, microwave, etc.

' formal dining and breakfast nook'

    where's the DR?

Ther is actually a "formal" dining room that is not pictured, to the left of the family room. I will work on making a better floor plan.
