Method Granite Cleaner--Do you use it?

If you do, can you do a little test for me?

I noticed my counters had a non-smooth feel to them. This am, I took a damp paper towel and wiped around the coffee pot area--my towel was yellow. "oh, from the coffee, I guess". Then I tried everywhere else. Yellow on the towel. Once the yellow stopped coming off, the counters feel glassy and smooth again.

The only thing I've cleaned with is Method granite cleaner. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I used this in the last kitchen, never noticed an issue. And I can't blame it on "oh, we prepped such and such in that area" because it was ALL over the kitchen. It's not pollen, the windows are closed.

Oh, the microfiber towel is orange.....wonder if that could be the culprit.

Thanks!

Bee

    Hi Beekeeper,

Yes, I use Method Granite cleaner (and love it).

I just did a test for you on a clean honed granite counter, wiping the counter with a white cotton flour sack towel. The result: no color of any kind on the towel.

I suspect that tiny coffee grounds are making your towel turn yellow. Just a guess.

thanks francoise, I thought the same thing about the cofee. But, we use a Keurig, so pretty clean. And I threw away the paper towels as I did other areas in the kitchen. Even an area far away had the same yellow. My hubby said it looked like urine. Nice image, huh?

I use it and love it - no problems whatsoever.

I LoVE ALL the Method cleaners. And I've never noticed any yellow residue on my towels.

    Bee,
I use it too and I usually use it with paper towels. I don't notice any discoloration on the counters or on my white towels. I'm guessing the orange towel is to blame. HTH

Probably a long shot, but does anyone smoke regularly in your house?

I use Method granite cleaner with white paper towels and have never experienced any residue or discoloration. You could do a test: try switching out your orange microfiber towel for white PTs for a week or so. Let us know whether this makes a difference.

I'll try it with white towels. I'm thinking it must be the towels too. As I said, I used this all the time before and never had any issue. Evil orange micro fiber towels.

And Ginny-Yikes, no way. Well, there were some guys (the trim crew) during construction who we found smoking INSIDE the house. I think they were heavily fined and removed from the job by the builder. Let's just say that was an ugly incident! They were just a scary group of humans anyway.

    Thanks everybody for the feedback.

I've been using the alcohol-water (lavender oil) spray on our granite for the past year, year and a half. The granite looks shiny and feels smooth. I use different color microfiber cloths (shades ranging from lime green, aqua, teal, purple....). On occasion I will wipe the counter with a piece of (white) paper towel, and there is never any color on it afterward (except whatever food prep residue I happen to be wiping up at the time).

If you are still experiencing discoloration after switching to white towels, try switching the cleaner and see if it makes a difference.

    Good luck bee!

I've used Method Daily Granite for years and love it. In our previous home I used it exclusively with microfiber towels (a few were bright orange!). I've used it in our current home with paper towels a lot since I no longer have to buff the leathered surface after I wipe. I also use microfiber on the island. No residue at all. Something strange is going on Bee! I'd start fresh with only white cloths or paper towels and clean everything off with a mixture of dish soap and water. Then rinse and dry. Then use the daily granite.

Are you by chance drying your microfiber towels with dryer sheets?

I use it on my carrara marble bathroom counter and have never noticed any residue. Periodically I get yellow or white crusty stuff around the faucets from our hard water, but can scrape (gently) with a razor and then clean with Method and it's clean again. I've been using paper towels (I probably should get some white microfiber cloths). We don't use the bathroom extensively (just washing hands and hand washing some delicate laundry), so the counters are typically pretty clean anyway.

The naughty orange towels are in the washer...going to air dry them now. It was their first laundering so we shall see. Hah, probably when I look in the washer they will not be orange any more!

Darn that Pantone color of the year....Tangerine Tango, I just had to have it....even on my microfiber towels.....lol.
