i got one a few wks ago. it's the kind you plug into your wall or strip and then plug your lamp into that. It has a small remote control. it's working great - wish I'd done it sooner. I keep the remote right by my computer and no longer have to climb up and over the bed to turn the lamp on/off.

my DH has installed the Levitron ones (got them from Home Depot) a couple of times. We love having them for bedrooms. simple to install as long as you are somewhat handy and make sure you turn off the electricity! it's basically just a switch out of the box. The ones we've had seem to work wonderfully. HTH

Thanks desertsteph and mairin! I got off track on other kitchen renovation projects, but am back on track and will let you know what solution we select.
