Do Interior Shutters Block Light and View?

I am investigating interior shutters for the windows across the front of my new home. I live in Seattle where it seems we have more gray days than sunny days and I'm worried that more light will be blocked by the shutters than if I went with wood blinds. I am looking at the wider slat shutters to also help preserve the view. I had 2 1/2" wood blinds in our last house that I loved but it wasn't a view home like we've built now. I know curtains and drapes are ideal, but I want to be able to turn the slats to block some sun while preserving the view during the day.

Any thoughts or photos comparing wood blinds to shutters? I've read the threads about interior shutters, but don't see much about the view and light....

The difference would be that the shutters are going to have a frame blocking the view.

If you are worried about light consider getting the Silhouette style blinds. The let in a lot of light and are so thin that they do not block as much view either like thicker wood blinds would.

I live on the other side of the state from you, but have lived in Seattle briefly and I know it can get pretty gray over there. If you're looking at Plantation type shutters, they are usually used in the South to block the sun and keep the heat out of the house. I think dilly dally has a good idea. Also, if you liked the wood blinds, why not see if there are some that would fit your new view requirements? You might want to try going to some drapery stores that also sell blinds and see what they recommend for your area. You might find shutters or blinds would work well!

I had plantation shutters installed on our master bed and master ensuite bathroom windows.....and slightly regret it......yes, absolutely, they block light despite being glossy white and wide. I find myself pulling them open (as in swinging them open) in the morning, knocking over plants etc in the process....sigh...All this made worse by having them installed on east facing windows. And another pet peeve - I have to attach/remove the crank for my windows too....grrrrr...
