Rooms with a View

Area church raises money by offering rooms with a view....they give the same 8x10 space to 12 different designers who do what they want with the space to create a room which illustrates their design aesthetic...to drum up business of course.

One room had the most fabulous wall paper. It was laser cut and black and flecked...but the way the cuts were made, it gave the optical illusion of being draped like an austrian shade....but it was actually flat.

Another room had the crown, chair rail and baseboard painted in blue with a wall paper with white background and blue and other color flowers on it...it was fresh and lovely....I'd forgotten how colors other than white on moldings can really pull a room together.

In fact, I was surprised at the amount of wall covering there was. One room had navy walls above a chair rail, with grass cloth paper below and a sisal rug...drapes had white background with the sisal colors in the print. Beautiful.

Then they had a slew of vendors of jewelry, vintage stuff, hand crafted stuff...all very nice.

One idea was a woman who decoupages the back side of glass plates...these plates are square with a flat bottom and a raised edge...she decoupages one thing on the bottom, then coordinating border around the edge and then frames them with regular picture frames.

Another idea was taking 3 decorative plates, each smaller than the next, gluing them together and mounting them to a rod to make decorative "garden flowers".

I also saw a beautiful evening bag that was made entirely out of overlapped soda can pop tops and crocheted. Most unusual and it looked fabulous...not "crafty" and it was surprisingly soft.

Another lady there made her own patchwork decorative pillows...but not country at all. Rather she selected patterns and colors to blend with an overall scheme in rectangles or squares. She did a beautiful job, top stitching each square on the pillow. Then she put a zipper in each cover. It was so well done....and for the price, it was ridiculous...no way she makes money on that...a true labor of love.

I saw lots of fabulous jewelry that I would like....I have this wedding to go to next summer and am thinking now about a simple dress to wear with a fabulous piece of jewelry....hmmmm.
