Favorite Kitchen Feature

I know I have seen a similar post before, but please share what you love about your kitchen...new or old. My kitchen is a few weeks away from completion, and I find myself wondering what my favorite feature will be when all is said and done. I look forward to hearing about your kitchens.

My favorite feature, hands down, is going to be gone when demo starts the first week in August. It's my french door double wall oven. I'm going to miss it a lot, but I hope the cumulative good things in my new kitchen will balance out the loss.

#1 favorite: My Kohler Karbon faucet. Awesome faucet in every way.

#2 favorite: Rachielle custom single bowl sink in textured stainless steel. I was worried that I'd miss the double bowl (used one for the dish rack) but love love love the single bowl. This one is just the right depth for comfort.

#3: Induction range. Energy efficient and fast. Would get induction again, just maybe not the Electrolux brand I chose.

#4: backsplash -- Clay Squared to Infinity 2x6 field tile in Avocado.

We just moved into our new house, and I was just thinking about this the other day. I have several favorite things. Love the microwave drawer. Never had one before, and it was a bit of a splurge item for me. Also love the one foot of butcher block on the end of the island -- right across from the sink. VERY HANDY! And like everyone else, love all my big drawers with soft close. So glad we did this. Wasn't totally sold on it during the planning, but now that I have them, can't imagine a kitchen without them.

My least favorite thing is the Kitchen Aid dishwasher. Hate it! It wasn't cheap either. I originally was going to go with several Kitchen Aid appliances, so glad I didn't. Can't wait to replace this one.

My walnut cabinets, no question. Next, a tie between my Karbon and my fridge.

Joyce, what don't you like about your KA dishwasher? Too loud? Doesn't clean? Something else?

The appliances, paint, lights, surfaces, other stuff can change but the infrastructure is very very important and is often taken for granted afterward as we focus on some little thing. Hands-down our best feature is the layout--efficiency, separate zones, ability to handle multicooks & multiactivities. I am less likely to put off a task because there is always a place to do it right now.

Probably second is the amount of natural light admitted by windows and the increase in light in dining room by repositioning door from kitchen. Has gone a long way toward curing dark room syndrome.

We're a year out from having finished and while I love a lot about the kitchen, the thing that I know I couldn't have done without is adding in the two huge upper windows and taking down the wall so that that light floods the whole house. I think a favorite feature depends a lot on what your "starting issues" were -- us -- are a 1200 sq. ft. (low ceilings/chopped up rooms) cape cod style home and taking out the kitchen wall not gave a functional kitchen, sent light throughout the house (we rarely turn on lights before 7 p.m. now), but also gave us a *lot* more room when entertaining -- when we'd have 12 people over before, we used to have to set up folding chairs in the hallway blocking the way to the bathroom -- a little too cozy.

This answer could be long because I love everything about my new kitchen so much. But I'll try.

The two spice pullouts, one for baking and one for cooking.

Trash pullout, on the end of the island. It is convenient to all my zones.

The Karbon faucet, it's a winner, so is the 32" deep SS one bowl sink.

    Induction cooktop....awesome.

Samsung refrigerator...full depth FD with deli drawer. I never hear it running and it's so easy to use.

My cabinets...slab door frame less in gray stained white birch. The finish is so nice, sometimes I just have to run my hands over them.

Base cabinet drawers, all with Blumotion

The Electrolux wall oven...wonderful. I love how it bakes and I love the smooth sliding racks.

Also, I'm so glad we decided on quartz for our counter top. Easy care and looks great.

This list is in no particular order, I just can't pick a couple of favorites.

my fav is my single sink (silgranit). love that thing!

It's not finished yet, but I LOVE how my walnut island turned out and I'm really happy decided to go with one level instead of two.

I am crazy excited about my Silgranit sink and the pendant lights we've picked out.

    It's not one thing.

I love that my kitchen makes me happy.

I love the way it looks, the way it functions (layout and all appliance choices), and the look on the faces of those who come in to my home and see it for the first time (it's quite a change from the old dark oak country kitchen that was there and is still there in many homes in our area).

Still in the old-kitchen phase, but my very favorite thing is the large table height peninsula. It's seen a lot of use for a lot of things and will be replicated in the new version of the kitchen.

My copper farmhouse sink love it! Even if its a little maintenance, its so worth it, and love my refrigerator drawer, great for my little kiddies to reach in for their favorites snacks and drinks, really recommend it!

    my sparkly island pendant lights
    my sparkly cabinet hardware
my base drawers (how did I ever live without base drawers?)

I love my double beer tap :)

I still love to run my hands over my beautiful cherry cabinets...they feel like silk and even after 11 years.

    My trash drawer.

Although I don't use it much, I do enjoy having a warming drawer to use when I have guests.

I love my microwave drawer. It's so easy to use and clean. And when I am cooking something that needs stirring, I just wait for the drawer to open and stir in place, without having to remove the bowl.

I really like my walkin pantry with the coffee center on a counter in there, along with my toaster oven. It keeps the clutter off of my counters. The mugs are all kept right above the coffee pot. It's about 5 feet to the sink to fill up the pot with water and the trash can is right out side the pantry for emptying the filters. Works like a charm for us!

I love that I have a really long island where I can spread out to prep things like pot stickers and egg rolls. I would run out of space in my old kitchen, so it's such a joy to have more useful counter space.

ICF: (sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread).
My KA dishwasher groans (yes, groans) loudly throughout the entire cycle. Our house is not "open concept", and I can still hear it in all the other rooms. The door is hard to open all the way, have to really push to get it to open fully, and because it's a "tall" dishwasher the door is nearly on the floor when fully open. Can't load it up like I did my 10 year old Jenn Air because it will not clean well. And the one thing I really dislike is that if I open it after the cycle has started, you have to hit "start/Cancel" again. It's not very touch sensitive, and you have to use your thumb and push really hard. I wish I had gotten the Bosch or Miele, although my friend has a Bosch and she says the tub is too small.

I love the spaciousness around the range, the new long expanse of marble counters on both sides, and the lightness since we took out dark tile and put in light tile and Danby marble. I love the overall feel of the kitchen, so much more open and spacious than the old kitchen even though the footprint is the same and the layout is not that different.

jgopp, your double beer tap is AWESOME. I can't wait to show DH, he's going to lose his you-know-what.

Only been in the new kitchen a month (and I don't even have the range yet -- ha!) but here are some highlights from our daily ooh and ahh sessions:
Bamboo floor: went with woven honey from ecotimber. It's light and durable and just brings so much light into our kitchen.
Natural cherry cabinets: glad to hear other people "pet" theirs too!
Soapstone countertops: have wanted these for years and every morning I come down to see them it is a dream come true
Opening up the doorway between our kitchen and living room -- didn't ask for it, the designer just drew it in that way -- but WOW, what a difference in light and openness.
Putting stools at our island. Our kids are so much more involved in cooking because they are front and center watching meal prep at the island without being right underfoot.

I love everything but especially my pull out bottom cabinet shelves, my 70/30 ss sink (can soak all my pans in it),my IKEA counter depth frig (ideal for galley kit) and the xtra 8 inches I got when I knocked wall out (seriously, it made a huge difference).

My kitchen is under construction, but my favorite feature will be my copper farm sink made by Rachiele. And my mother of pearl accent tiles for the backsplash.
Actually, everything... but if I HAVE to pick one thing, it would be the copper sink.

Having a prep sink. My KD suggested putting one in and I initially said no as I thought it was an unnecessary expense and an affectation. I use it ALL the time. As many people mention zones - I have a prep zone which is seperate from my clean-up zone. My kitchen isn't all that big 10'x20' but I absolutely love having it.
We also added an extra window and I like the extra light and being able to see more of the trees outside our windows.
