porch swing...need to replace...

We have a wicker one that has seen better days. It is about 13 yrs old and there is no fix to the problem. So time to replace. I have looked online until I am cross-eyed ! Wood ones and resin wicker. All have very mixed reviews...especially the "made in China" resin. We need a 4 ft swing. What do you have and where did you get it and do you like it? Is it still available ? TIA ...c

Caroline, have you thought about making your own using an old full size bed? Granted they are a bit wider than what you're wanting at 54 inches, but if that size will work you could have a gorgeous one of a kind swing.
Though they didn't in the example linked below, you could use the foot board as arms like they don when making benches.

Here is a link that might be useful: Porch swing from old bed.

Ooooh, that's a nice idea, Just!

Mine was a Mother's Day gift from DH about 10 years ago. Just a slatted wood one from Lowes, I think. We could have painted it, but instead put a light stain on it. It's held up wonderfully and still looks great. I like that there is some air flow with the slats and the wood keeps it from getting hot in the sun.

just...neat idea but wouldn't fit on our front porch with all the other chairs etc. Thank you for the idea though.

lynn I looked at the Lowes swing on line and they don't have good reviews anymore :( . Everything is made in china now and is so poorly sanded etc. I am going to try and go to Lowes and just see if they have any in stock...wrong time of year I am afraid. Otherwise will keep looking around. I may find one at the local antique mall or something like that. Always thrifty ! Thank you guys. c

Have you looked on Ebay? I just checked and there are a lot that size that look nice and are made here in the US. Most are pretty reasonably priced too!

Trail- my grandmother bought us two swing from plow &hearth. They're teak and still perfect after 7 years. I'm sure they are reasonably priced if she bought them :)

Trailrunner ~ Have you done an online search for Amish-built swings? There are a number of sites...Pennsylvania, Ohio, Minnesota and even Florida. Better yet, if you're near an outlet, it would be worth checking. It's likely they'd custom make one to fit your requirements, too. Made in USA!

I love the one I bought this spring from Wayfair. VERY sturdy and exactly as described on their website.

    Craigslist!

There are occasionally some beautiful, locally made swings on Craigslist in my area.

You might even get something custom made for roughly the same price.

Yeah for Craigslist ! I found a ton of things but only one really was perfect. They use reclaimed heart pine which is perfect for my house. Thank you bird lover...and everyone for your suggestions. I also found someone that makes great backyard swing/climbing sets ...so hopefully Grand baby will have a treat come Dec. c

If you happen to live near an Amish community, they make wonderful swings. The one we had looked like it would last a lifetime. Unfortunately, it went with the house when we sold it.

Yes, Technicolor. It's really unusual. I bought a cushion for the seat but didn't want to cover the back. It was less than $100 and, as I said before, really really sturdy.
