I've heard of this problem. We had plastic around the hard drive and monitor, plastic going into the office door and double plastic over windows between the construction zone and the office. I think my DH thought I went overboard but didn't want a down computer too.

You will also want to detach it from wall or run it on battery when there is a big load on electrical system or when circuits are likely to be turned on and off or there is likelihood of blowing fuses. I once heard the analogy that irregularities of electrical current affect electronic products like rust does to a car--you may have lost your muffler going over a bump, but the bump was not the real cause of the loss.

Dust of any kind is death to computer hard drives. In fact, if you're using a desktop computer in your kitchen, once it's finished, make sure it's well away from anywhere you're using flour.

Our computer was uncovered (didn't think of it) and the monitor showed artifacts on the screen afterwards. I opened it up and used two cans of compressed air to shoot off dust from the sensitive parts (video card, hard drive, memory slots, processor, basically everywhere on the motherboard). Also used a damp rag on the non-circuit surfaces. Now it's running fine, thank God. One tip: make sure to use the "straw" with the compressed air to really concentrate the air on specific areas.
