Without more information about you and your family, it's tough to give specific answers...have you had a chance to read the "Layout Help" topic in the "Read Me" thread?

In general...the island is pretty far from the range to work as a Prep Zone. Plus, the island doesn't have a water source for prepping.

Is the island that shape for a reason? It's not the best use of your space or for cabinetry/storage.

It's also a long walk to the pantry.

How about a rectangular island with the long side facing the range and a prep sink in the island? It would be a better use of the space and give you more options, like two Prep Zones when more than one person is prepping as well as allow someone to be cleaning up while others are prepping and/or cooking...without everyone getting in each others way.

Could you tell us a little more about you and your family? How do you plan to use the kitchen on a day-to-day basis...eat meals at the island? Eat meals in the DR?

Thanks so much for the response. I would love to have a pantry in the kitchen but if we go with the plan we have now which I am not even sure we are going to do that now, I don't see room for one. Ideally I would love to have a corner pantry but that really doesn't give me room on the side of the range. I am enclosing what I would like the island to look like. I basically would like an open kitchen to living room. I don't think I am that picky but I want lots of storage space and a functioning kitchen. It's just my husband, myself and our 6 year old daughter and my husband stays out of the kitchen for the most part. I would like the island more for a gathering place and don't really think I need a second sink. I do want lots of storage in the island so I certainly want to utilize it the best way possible. So changing the shape may be a good option. I love dishes and different gadgets. I don't bake, or at least I am not very good at it but I do love to cook.
