bedspread with oriental rug?

Anyone have a bed covering either a bedspread, comforter, duvet that you love with an oriental rug? If you have a photo that would be terrific. Most of the bed coverings are so busy that they look odd with the rug. This is for the guest room.

I have a red/cream toile bedspread that I think looks nice with two small Orientals that are next to the bed. They both have ivory backgrounds, and the other predominant colors are gray, navy, and red. (They are not the same.)

I don't have a photo but will try to post one soon, if it would be helpful. It probably wouldn't be if your rug is mainly red.

Toile does look good with Oriental rugs if you pick the main color of the rug, or one of the predominant colors, for the toile. Stripes and solids also work. I would probably go for a solid with pillows in colors picked up from the rug.

newhomebuilder, I love the look of your bedroom. The bed cover choice is perfect in terms of color but what really makes it sing is the texture of it, which is so different and rich looking.

Thank you, and that's a really bad photo! lol

Also, I told my DH just this morning that we needed to move the painting up a few inches. Still trying to find a good deal on some curtain panels. Since we will need 8 panels, and 4 rods. Furnishing those windows and doors will be expensive.

Newhomebuilder, have you tried Country Curtains? They have a catalog but you can also shop online. Their prices are very reasonable and the quality and service are great. I've bought many items from them and have been completely satisfied. I think curtains will add warmth and the perfect finishing touch to your lovely room. We bought our rods at Home Depot and they actually had a great selection. You can see some of my curtains on the thread named something like "making small changes" with my name under "posted by".

Thanks, I'll take a look. I didn't know that Country Curtains carried silk draperies. It's been many years (since my country phase some 28 years ago lol)that I even looked at a CC catalog.

I apologize for adding to the hyjacking of this thread to talk about drapes, but . . . newhomebuilder, if you are looking for very inexpensive drapes, Walmart has some surprisingly nice panels for under $20/panel. Nice color, nice weight for the price

reno_fan - Nice looking bedroom. Your spread looks similar to mine.

graywings- Thank you for pointing those out. Much less than the curtains I was looking at Penny's. Do you own any, and can you buy in the store or is it Internet only?

I am looking at these green faux silk curtains. I wonder if this color will go with my comforter? I am afraid that the yellow/gold will be the wrong color for my walls, and the beige will be too taupe. I'll have to get over to WalMart and take a look.

I have a darker rug than those above and went with a patterned RL comforter. Was tired of duvets and needed something the dog could sleep on during the day. Just wanted to post to show that you can have patterns on both:

Not my bed and I don't have all the pieces. Just the damask comforter, two damask shams and two plain blue shams with an accent pillow.

    allison0704 - That's a pretty rug!

graywings - Our local Wal*Mart did not have the faux silk curtains. I am seriously thinking of ordering them, but would love to see a photo of them hanging in someones home. Do you have them?

NewHome: I don't have them hanging yet. I am going to be sewing two panels together to get the extra height I need, and I haven't gotten to it yet. It may be a moot point, as I noticed they were out of stock on the walmart website.

Mine has smaller Oriental rugs on either side of the bed and another in the reading area, out of this picture. Unfortunately, the only pic I have doesn't show the rugs! I went with various shades of cream, using different textures for more interest. The only print is in the one chair by the fireplace and in my three Oriental rungs. I was going for a romantic, serene room here.

Thank you, newhomebuilder. It's the Windsor from Karastan. (I swear the bedding goes with the rug. In those pictures, they don't seem to!)

Pretty room, Lynn. Does your entire home have brick flooring? I don't recall.

Allison, yes, the entire house and three of the four patios are all brick. They look great, are easy to keep clean and very forgiving, but make my feet tired on occasion. No carpets, just a lot of (mainly) Oriental rugs.

graywings - Which curtains do you see as out-of-stock? I checked the green color and they were still available, but I am not sure how they will look. Can I return to a Wal*Mart store if they do not work?

Custom made through JC Penney I always loved this room. The rugs were added after but I loved it even more. Yes it’s bold but I had it for 25 years and never got tired of it. The fabric finally got tired. ❤️ So now I’m searching too.
