I like the second idea of a table with art over it. Make sure the art is large enough. You also could do a bench with the art work over it, thus a place to sit while getting ready to leave. If so then I'd find a way to put a mirror there to for checking you hair etc. You could also move the desk that I see in the picture to the long wall, add chairs to the side, put a small gallery over it. It would be better if we could see the rest of the room.

A vote for the two tall bookcases -- BUT with a table or shorter matching bookcase in the middle with the art over it!

Very very handy to have that option for storage and display space!

Perhaps the bookcases could have closed-door storage space on the bottom halves?? Again -- great to have to have an option to hide stuff too!

Now that I see all the room, I think a narrow table similar in color to the fireplace mantle and a large painting depicting the outdoors to mimic your gorgeous views. Your kitchen is fab!!! Even a large mirror would be an option. You could put a artsy bowl on the table for keys, etc. and the mirror would be a good checkpoint and open up the area behind the sofa. Check out what it will reflect though.
