I believe what's happened is you've exceeded the "memory" you're allowed with your picture portfolio. You need to delete some of your pictures.

Simple go through the pages and delete, delete, delete

Newhomebuilder .. after you go through your pictures and decide which ones you want to keep in that photobucket account. Save the others you want to 'delete' to your computer in a file. Then make a new photobucket account and upload the pictures in it. I keep two accounts one for personal pictures and one that houses all of the pictures of the log homes we've built. The personal pics are under my e-mail address and the log homes, my DH's e-mail address. If you have say a lot of family photos, then a lot of house photos, you might want to split them that way in to two seperate albums.

For a short time you may still encounter Photobucket problems even after you delete.
Your bandwith usage is based by the month and a date, which I presume is the day the acct was opened, so even though you delete to create space, your Photobucket acct won't be back to normal until that date rolls around the following month.

By the way, do you have a free or premium i.e. paid Photobucket acct?

You don't have to delete, you're fine, you haven't used up your storage space.
What happened is that you posted too many pics in this month and exceeded your bandwith i.e. the links to your acct.

It'll reset next month

That's just it, I only store photos that I share on this site, and on CruiseCritic. I often delete photos that are not needed anymore. My account storage says 24% used (124MB). They keep asking me to upgrade (for a cost) to Pro.

zipdee - Great idea! I just hate to start all over, plus I use a Hotmail address for all my "junk" email. I don't want to give my personal email address out. My DH's email is work related.

Someone told me that Photobucket does this occasionally, but after a month, they will give your bandwidth back. Seems like it has been a month. I miss being able to post photos, and there is one particular photo that I wanted to share with the person having trouble with their fireplace wall. :(

The thing about my account is that I did the least amount of posting photos last month and the month before than I have ever done. We had a wedding in late September, and then DH and I took a vacation, so I know I wasn't on this board posting photos, much at all!

Could the bandwidth have to do with how many people look at my photos? How do I tell what the date was that my bandwidth was exceeded?

When I click on my album, on the far left side of the page right under "Photobucket" it says my screen name, how many images, and how many comments I have.

I'm so lazy, I don't even have them sorted into albums. They're just there in one big glob. :)

I wonder if this is because of the size of the photos and if they are compressed for the web before uploading. That would make a big difference in space and the amount of photos you could post.

Photobucket's explanation isn't very good, is it. Bandwidth exceded means that you have exceeded your maximum allowed data transfer. It doesn't necessarily mean you have too many pictures. It is probably the amount of traffic your photos received. If you posted a link to your photobucket album and 300 people went to your album that could cause you to excede your bandwidth.

I use the free account and literally have 800 some photos in a blob. :) At one point in the past I was getting notices that I was about to exceed something. Probably bandwidth. I deleted a bunch and one day the problem went away and I only have a small percentage of the space filled.

I don't believe it has anything to do with how many people view your pics.

When you post a pic you create a "bandwith" between the posting site and PB and you get a set amt per month w/the free--I'm assuming if you go Pro i.e. paid, you get more or unlimited.

Have you ever noticed the warning at PB that if you move your pic their the "link" will be broken to whichever site it was posted at?
The pic at that site will then disappear.

That's what happened to me, so I deleted a bunch.

parma42 - I have all mine in albums, so my home page says only (5 images). I would have to go through each individual album to get a count.

sundownr - Your explanation makes the most sense. I must have posted something that got a ton of action last month. I still want to know how to tell the date of my exceeding.

What is Bandwidth?

Bandwidth is used when digital content is viewed from a link you posted on another website or sent in an email (e.g., MySpace, eBay, message boards, etc.).
Bandwidth is a measure of the number of bytes passed over time via direct linking.
It is calculated by adding up the size of each of your images or videos as they are sent from Photobucket. The "Monthly Bandwidth" number is the amount of bandwidth you have used within the last month.
The month is determined by the day of the month you registered your account.

Example: You have various images of 25K each in size that are viewed by 100 users on your favorite message board in one day.
You also have one video of 15000K that is viewed by 10 users in one day. 25K * 100 requests = 2500K (or 2.5MB). 15000K * 10 requests = 150000K (or 150MB).
When you add the two together, you have used 152.5MB of bandwidth in one day.

Important! Do not confuse bandwidth with your album size.

Bandwidth usage is unmetered for Pro accounts, however Photobucket reserves the right to disable direct linking on accounts that use excessive bandwidth or are otherwise abusing the system.
To check your current usage, log into your account, click the account options link, and then review your Monthly Bandwidth in the Account Dashboard to the right.
Free accounts are allowed 10GB of bandwidth per month, and Pro accounts are unmetered.
10GB is hundreds of thousands of images viewed via direct links, and the value resets each month on the anniversary of the day you registered.

My note - remember, regardless of how many 'posts' your thread may have, thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people may have viewed it.
GW membership is required only if you want to post.

I think I know what did it! About a month ago, I posted a video of my Fall ride through the Great Smokey Mountains. OK, I am not sharing with y'all anymore if you are going to look. :)

I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem, but make sure that the Images Link Back to Album box is unchecked if you don't want everyone to be able to see your entire album. Also make sure that it is marked Private. You will find this in Account Options at the top of the page.

I forgot to mention that if people can view your entire album they may be using up more of your bandwidth. Plus, you may not want to share everything!

I wondered where that first post was going. :) Oh yes, my album is "private" and the box is unchecked.

I feel sure it was that video that did it. We will see in 8 days. If not, I will be asking for more suggestions - short of copying my over 800 photos to another account. :)
