Open Floor Plan Colors

Hello,

We have an open floor plan Kitchen/Breakfast nook/Family Room.

We have been in the house two years and these rooms are still the builder grade off white. It's time for a change.

Now the hard part. There is no wall separation between the kitchen/breakfast nook and the family room. We would like two different colors for the kitchen and family room, but don't think that is possible without a weird looking transition. So, we are thinking about a single color with a couple accent walls.

Here is the floor plan with the walls highlighted in three colors. How would you paint it? We were thinking all of the parallel walls one color (i.e., the yellow in the pic). Then all of the other parallel walls another color (i.e., the red OR the brown/gray). We are pretty clueless, so any recommendations would be great!

We have a light brown/beige microfiber sectional and recliner. Maple cabinets, dark granite counter tops, beige tile in kitchen, beige/taupe carpet in family room.

Thoughts?

Note: the big yellow wall on the bottom of the floor plan has a double door in the middle of it. So, it's not really a single large wall.
