Which layout for bedroom?

15 years ago

It was suggested I start a new thread.

Do you like the dresser under the window or the original layout?

Original

This was the photoshopped goal:

{{gwi:1859530}}

I'll have the bedskirt back soon.

{{gwi:1871145}}

{{gwi:1871146}}

{{gwi:1869442}}

New considered

{{gwi:1869445}}

{{gwi:1869463}}

{{gwi:1869462}}

{{gwi:1859532}}

{{gwi:1869454}}

Notes: The chairs are just ideas. The taller one would have to be recovered in maybe the plaid? Still trying to figure out what to do about a nighstand. The white one would get painted. A round skirted table was suggested also or I'll keep looking for something on CL. I don't want a bench at the bottom of the bed because I might as well put the tall dresser back against the wall. With either layout, new curtains will be raised up on a thicker rod and framing the edge of the windows. Will be closed only at night. Wanted to add bamboo romans and mount them up high too.

    While I don't think the dresser under the window is ideal, I think that it doesn't look horrible either. If your room limits you and it makes the most sense, it's probably a good compromise. I don't love how the dresser is taller than the bottom of the window frame. It looks a bit out of place, but not horrible. Good luck!

    Tina, "I thought you might could place out-of-season items in another room." I had to chuckle about that because my summer clothes are packed away right now in one (only one) of those huge Tupperware bins in the attic. I also have a somewhat large shoe bin that gets swapped out. I’ve claimed one of the spare room closets for sweatshirts. I could also move some stuff that's in my dresser to bins like you suggested. We just need a better system and it's for sure on my todo list. :)

    Natal, Thanks for posting that photo. That could work well for him. We actually have two catch all/junk drawers in the kitchen. The one has batteries, tools, tape measure, tape, etc. I think I saw someone on here, Mustangs I believe, put all that stuff in a one of those organizers on the back of a door. I could use the laundry room door and train DH to put that stuff in the his new drawer in the kitchen. I think once we get the bedroom more situated he’ll keep his stuff better in check like he does with the rest of the house. He grew up in a VERY disorganized and cluttered house and he can’t stand it so he does pretty well with ours.

    The whole arrangement except the long dresser is growing on me. The dresser under the window still feels awkward IRL. It actually does go across the trim. I think if it were a shorter, or the window wider, I’d be more accepting. The proportions seem off and I still feel like I’m trying to showcase the dresser and I want the main focal point, when you look or walk by the room, to be the bed. The room with things the original way feels like that’s the natural furniture layout of the room. The space in the front feels too open and somewhat awkward. That probably doesn’t make sense. Like wasted space. Again, I don’t want to put a bench at the end of the bed.

    Woke up and saw Mr. Man made a nice bed on the dresser. : ) Took longer than I thought. I don’t want to cover the top with anything so this was also a concern.
    {{gwi:1882859}}

    I’m learning towards putting everything back and since DH likes having a seat all of a sudden to put his socks on, I think I’ll look for a bench for under the window. That should be fun to find. I’ve seen so many for dirt cheap when I didn’t need one. : ) Are you guys thinking a rolled arm type bench? I know it’s not ideal to have his and her dressers on the opposite sleeping sides but it’s not a big deal. DH could sit on the bench to put his socks on and he always comes over to my side anyhow before he leaves to give me a hug/kiss goodbye if he leaves before me.

    I can’t help but think how both the web chair and tall chair don’t have a “spot” in the house and I’m thinking of buying yet another different piece of furniture for the room. Could use one of those chairs in the office but I’m running out of homes for this stuff. Oh well, I’m sure my sister will be happy to take things off my hands, ha.

    OK, sigh, I've already made one offer to take a piece a furniture off your hands (the table), but here's another big sacrifice from me. I'd be glad to accept the web chair, too. :)

    Rolled arm bench under the window would be beautiful, too. Happy hunting!

    I would consider this style of bench with no arms. Gives the illusion of more space without the arms.

    When we did the kitchen remodel I set up a temporary kitchen in one of the empty bedrooms. Bought a couple cheap cabinets at Target to store dishes and food stuffs. Once the kitchen was finished I re-purposed one of the cabinets for my bedroom closet. It offers great storage for my folded tops. I also use one of those hanging organizers for others. We only have an armoire and small drawer chest in the bedroom for clothing storage, so the cheap closet stuff really helps!

    Java - :) If I didn't have a sister and you lived closer...

    Roseabbey - I like your bench. Is that a regular bed bench? Do you think a bench will be too short for under the window? I don’t think I could recover a roll arm type bench either so something like this would be better.

    Natal - That’s a good idea! I don’t want to pay for a grand closet system that only DH and I will see anyhow so I’ll be using similar stuff like that.

    Here’s a picture I found of the closet and the room before we filled them.

    That back wall is where I added another shelf above the existing.
    {{gwi:1882864}}
    That thing in the middle of the room that I failed to move is a covered kitty bed.
    {{gwi:1882865}}
    I was ready to get rid of this when just a few days ago Moss decided to use it again.

    The bench is 48" wide, our bed is a king size. I dont think it would be too short, you wont be lying on it. Your window is 78" with trim. My picture shows you how much space you would have on both sides since a king bed is 78".

    I wouldnt go too much longer, you dont want to crowd that side of the room, you want the room to look spacious.

    I've read it all, I've looked at all the pictures and while it does open the room up and gives the appearance of more space, the bottom line is you are not comfortable with it and for some very good reasons. I'm not sure if it would really grow on you either. I know this has been suggested, but I can't remember if it has actually been done, but...have you ever had the bed in front of the window? The long dresser on the wall where the bed is now and the chest on the wall where you just moved it to which is on the right when you walk in? If you have,I vaguely remember, I think :)

    Roseabbey - Thanks for the clarification. That helps seeing it by your bed.

    Kmcg - I haven't actually tried it. I don't think it will fit well. The long wall is where the bed currently is I thought would look goofy with the long dresser against it all by itself with really nothing else. I also can't picture the iron bed in front of the window. The iron posts and the window grids... My bed was in front of the window growing up because it had to be but I kind of like that this is open. I'll look at that tonight.

    You can do more shelving yourself for a lot less. Lowes and Home Depot carry that shelving. I'd do a double shelf on at least one side of the closet. On ours, where we have double shelving you can hang shirts/pants, etc. (shorter stuff) on each row and the top of the bottom row is also a shelf, so I have some sweaters and things folded there. There are also hooks (for belts, hats, scarves, etc.) that work well. I have one that is actually for ties (a rack hook type thing) that I use for some of my necklaces. You can also do a shoe rack on the floor, that really helps keep shoes neater. (I keep some shoes in boxes on shelves.)

    Also, our upper shelving on one side is not as easy for me to reach so I keep things there that are not used as often. I have several pretty hat boxes that I store stuff in there. I like having a pretty closet LOL.

    tina

    PS - girl - maybe you just need to get rid of some of those clothes! LOL

    Shee: We are sure having you move everything around don't we? But in the end, you'll know that you have the layout that you like the best. It's always hard to tell from pictures and even sometimes when you are in the space, unless you actually try it out. I had also thought about the bed in front of the window like kmcg had suggested. Certainly it'd be the focal point of the room. Gut feel is it would not be wide enough for you. I seem to recall you said the width was 15'? If queen bed is about 64" wide that would leave you 58" per side which is plenty wide enough. But perhaps I'm mistaken and it's 12' wide and then may be a tad tight. If you were to do the bed there, then dresser could go back on long wall. It just may not be too comfortable with the iron slats and window behind and you will need to pull bed away from wall for drapery clearance.

    Bench is a nice option--great place for the kitties to sun themselves, stash the pillows at night, put on shoes/socks, etc. and will give a more balanced look to the room instead of everything all towards the front side of room.

    Hi Shee,

    I've been following along with your adventure and I have to say you sure are a good sport! All that furniture moving! Please take what I suggest with a grain of salt but it seems to me you really want to use that beautiful web chair. Why don't you move everything back the way you originally had it and put the chair and that pretty round table in front of your window? I think that would look nice. And I love love love your bedding. You did good!

    Tina - I got rid of a ton a few weeks ago. I had a bunch of stuff from high school still that I haven’t worn in years. A lot of it was dated or too teeny bop. (think surfer/snowboarder/skater apparel -Roxy, etc.) I ain’t got nothin’ on my BFF. I was at her apartment once and counted 42 pairs of pants just on her top shelf of the closet. She has clothes at three different houses. Yeeah.

    Val - See below. : )

    Tanna - Thanks! Oh, I would love to use that chair somewhere in the house but if I doesn’t look right, it just doesn’t and I’ll move on. It’s really small in scale to everything else I have.
    ____

    I wasn’t going to try this. I went back all prepared to move it to the original until I realized NOW was the time to try because of the location of the dressers. I figured DH would grumble but he thought it sounded like a good idea.

    Important notes: There are a few less than perfect issues.
    1. I don’t know what I think but I like it better than the dresser in front of the window. I pulled the curtains out as far as I could to the edge. You’ll have to visualize brown ones raised up and out with bamboo romans also up with the rod. I won’t use tie backs. I’d have to use rings in order to close the curtains easily at night and the romans would pretty much just be for decorative.

    2. I would have to use lamps instead of wall sconces which I’m ok with. I KNOW those lamps don’t work but I have something there to give an idea.

    3. The nightstands need to be where they are because of the curtains so the one closest to the closet door is over the trim a little but you tell unless you’re right up at it.

    4. I didn’t center the long dresser on the wall but perhaps it should be. There’s only about 20” of walk space between the bed and long dresser but DH didn’t care. You can move fine but I don’t know if it looks goofy.

    5. The long wall with the dresser, what on earth would you do with the wall? I guess you figure these things out later but it’s something I’d like to think about now. Maybe just a large old mirror over the dresser?

    Anyhow ready for picture overload?… look how much bigger the room looks! It is 15’ wide and 18’ long.

    Honestly no. I'm only really in the room if it's time for bed.

    I don't know that I like this look because I think it takes away from the headboard but there is a lot more space when you walk into the room.

  • 15 years ago
    last modified: 11 years ago

    Way too tight, Don't like the iron bed against the windows. Besides, you wouldn't be able to fit in that awesome mirror over the headboard and that is a must.

    But hey, I bet you have some awesome abdominal muscles from moving all this stuff around!

    My preferences are for how it was originally, only issue was the night stand, hummmm.... big issue in our house since my husband and I both use our nightstands; seperate clocks - not that he knows how to use his, lamps for reading after he/she goes to bed, water for the middle of the night 'I'm thirsty and don't want to run down to the kitchen', not to mention all the books we both have stashed in our stands.

    Set up #2; Yes, the dresser is in front of the window, but major pro is both can have nightstands! I actually don't mind your dresser in front of your window because it appears to fit the space. Does take away from the drama of the window treatments. Personally, I don't think it takes away from the bed as focal point because you did such a fantastic job making your bed the focal point. Just don't go nuts trying to accessorize your dresser or it WILL end up taking away from the bed. In all honesty, face it, you'll need something cozy for the cats anyway to sit on to soak up the rays during the day. The only thing I didn't like about how you had this set up was the dressers across from each other. I don't care for that in a room at all, mess it up a bit. I would like to see the highboy dresser in between the closet and doorway and then a chair with lamp or something, like a small sitting area to the side of the bed. If you want the dresser to disappear a bit more, once you are done, take all the drawer pulls off it and the highboy and refinish them to match your bed. A bit of spray paint and you are done.

    I have no clue who you are in real life, but I have gotten such a hoot over these bedroom posts! Thanks! I'd lay odds you are a fun person in real life; lots of energy, chatty, open, and just plain nice.

    Can't wait to see the finished project, or maybe I don't want it to end - then the fun will as well!

    I think it looks very good. I would prefer the curtains to not be pulled back so far, and I think it may look even better with the blinds you have planned. I really like those lamps you have. Also, I think you could just paint that nightstand for your husband as it looks better from this view, maybe just change the knobs as you had mentioned.

    I don't like it in front of the window, it doesn't look natural to me. Also, I think it takes away from your beautiful bed and bedding - too much going on. You really are a good sport and fun to comment about because you are willing to try different ideas. I like either your original or the dresser by the window. I think the bench would look nice by the window and look inviting. I bet your cats will love it too.

    I like the dresser best in front of the window. This is not normally something I would like at all, however, in this situation, I think it is the best arrangement for your existing furniture and room and will look great once everything is finished.

    I think you're right, shee: this last arrangement, while opening up your room in some respects, does detract from your beautiful bed and bedding :-( That said, it appears your previous 2 options have their own pros and cons... Just thinking out loud here...are you sure one of the dressers wouldn't work in the closet (bet you're thinking, "Uh, yeah, lady, why don't *you* come over here and lug this heavy furniture all over yet again?!" LOL) In my childhood bedroom, my dresser was in my closet (and just barely fit) due to space constraints, but it worked pretty well--just a thought. It seems like if just one of your dressers were moved out of the room, that would give you the open feeling, plus keep your other dresser out from under the window, and allow your nightstands to fit-- *and* you could then put a bench under the window...

    You have been such a good sport about trying all these suggestions. My back aches just thinking about all the furniture moving you've done, though! Whatever you decide to do, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you truly gave all of the options a try. Honestly, I think it's going to be beautiful when it's done, regardless of which layout you choose. I can't wait to see it in all its finished, painted, accessorized glory--and w/ a vellux tucked away, hidden, under all those beautiful bedcoverings! :-)

  • 15 years ago

    "Honestly, I think it's going to be beautiful when it's done, regardless of which layout you choose."

    Ditto--Some ways, it's hard to choose as you have such beautiful furnishings and vision. I've enjoyed seeing all the various options.

    With headboard by the window, you cannot really see the beauty of the iron bed unless the drapes are closed. BTW, where does the window face (front or backyard)? All and all, I think you will be happiest with the orginal layout with one of the round tables for your DH with a decorative box on top as we had discussed before, perhaps a basket on the long dresser as well for him to toss his stuff in. Having a bench in front of the window will not detract from either the WTs or focal point of the bed and all the pluses that have already been mentioned. There were pros/cons to all solutions, having enough storage is very impt. and it only gets more impt. when you start your family and suddenly all the other bedroom space is gone for overflow space and you need to make all your stuff fit in your room.

  • 15 years ago

    I didnt think I would like the bed in front of the window but I do. It really opens up the room imo. The only thing the headboard and the window grills looks very busy. What about keeping the panels but adding light sheers to your window. You would still get the natural light but it would be a beautiful backdrop for your headboard.

  • 15 years ago
    last modified: 11 years ago

    I don't think it looks all that bad actually!. It DOES open the room even more, but I would put the matching nightstand on the other side so it doesn't interfere with the doorway as you have pictured. Of course a mirror over the long dresser is needed and it would take up some of that empty wall space. Close the curtains behind the bed for a night time look and see what it feels like. Perhaps the window dressed as this one is? It creates a beautiful backdrop for the bed and still lets light in during the day.

    I really thought each of these different arrangements would be an all or nothing type thing. I’m surprised there’s such varying responses.

    Sandra,“Besides, you wouldn't be able to fit in that awesome mirror over the headboard and that is a must.” That was another thing I thought of.
    Ha, and thanks for the kind words. I’m honestly somewhat shy IRL until I get to know someone.

    Jbrig,"Uh, yeah, lady, why don't *you* come over here and lug this heavy furniture all over yet again?!"
    Hahaha! It would be tight and that would take away from more space in the closet. I also know DH will not understand why on earth I’m doing that even though it’s definitely not unheard of.
    Vellux.. you betcha. A tan one’s hiding under the red blanket. : )

    Val, It’s the backyard.

    Kmcg, Thanks for posting those pictures. I think what’s bugging me is my headboard isn’t solid. I think those beds works better than mine.

    I could deal with the quirks of the entire new arrangement except the bed/window deal. It’s very busy with the iron and the window grills. If I had a solid headboard, I believe I’d be more ok with it.

    I don’t like how curtains look closed whether anything’s in front of the window or not. I don’t really want to use sheers because I wanted to use the romans but that would help with the busy appearance.

    I didn’t sleep well last night and normally have no problems. I kept waking up and thinking, “my bed is in a weird spot, my bed is in a weird spot.” Could’ve been the rain. :)

    I’m still amazed at how much more space is near the door, however, it is really tight walking by the dresser. I think if I were going to keep the room this way it should be moved centered on the wall which would make even more of it beside the bed. That wall with the long dresser also is awkward.

    I believe I’m going to move it back to the original layout tonight. When I posted the question about the nightstand I honestly didn’t think the size was a problem. Style could be better but I figured paint, etc. and new hardware would help. IRL there was enough room to maneuver around and thought it was much better after I moved the long dresser centered on that wall and ignored the light switch. The room felt right to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you guys gave your suggestions and I’m glad I tried the things I did.

    I’m still considering painting the white stand ( if I’m going to use it the white isn’t working) but if I do, would you use different knobs or similar pulls like the dressers? Honestly thought, the bottom of the white stand matches the lines of old furniture I’m planning on using in the future kid room so maybe it’s better paired with them. Just typing through my thoughts. . .

    If I go with a round table what color tablecloth would you use if you were going to do it? I am very curious to try burlap. My cats aren’t always like normal cats so they may very well leave it alone. I won’t know unless I try. I want to talk to DH and get his thoughts on the round table. I’m sure he is going to say that’s fine. I will want to come up with another solutions for misc. crap that enters the room without a home whether it's a baket under the tablecloth or on top or under the bed.

    OOo.. I can also get the wall lamps if I put the bed back to the original.

    Thank you guys for listening to me and caring! My family and friends just aren't into this stuff!

    I really like everything about the latest arrangement except for the headboard and window. So my choice would have to be the dresser under the window. I don't think it is showcasing the dresser. It has been fun to watch your progress. I remember when we moved our bed to a different wall, waking up in the night and knowing something was off.

Nothing more than a small wooden tray, leftover paint, scrapbook paper and poly! You could create one to coordinate with your bedroom for him to put all the junk in ON TOP OF THE CHEST!!

    Sounds like you aren't going to keep it with the bed in front of the window, but it WOULD look beautiful with sheers behind the headboard. If you did that, why couldn't you switch out the tall dresser and the long dresser. The tall dresser would fill some of that vertical space and the long dresser fits perfectly on the other wall.

  • 15 years ago

    Are you up to trying what olychick suggested? Just ONE more move? I think trying the chest on the long wall and the dresser on the original wall just might do it! Also sheers behind the bed. Try pulling the drapes shut just to get an idea of how it would look! :-) I think you might find that your bed is again "showcased"!

    I have been following this thread all a long, but didn't have any good suggestions that had not already been made! Love your enthusiasm to try new things. You also have a special DH!

    ok--what about the long dresser on the wall where the taller dress is right now, at the foot of your bed and moving the tall dress back to it's original wall...

    Otherwise I voted for your original set up with nothing on the window wall and your dressers how you had them.

    I think what started all this was adding a nightstand right?

    Hi Guys!

    I just tried moving DH's tall dresser back and then also tried moving my dresser back with the bed in front of the window. I didn't like either. It's too crammed with his dresser there and look odd with the doors (mainly the closet door) and nightstand.

    The iron with the grills in the window is too busy for me IRL and I just don't care for sheer curtains.

    The original large furniture placement feels 100% right to me now that it's back in place.

    Now on to the nightstands... I talked to DH about a round table tonight and turns out he's very anti. SO the only way a round table will enter the room is if I give mine up and perhaps move it to his side. - which I'd be willing to do if it works.

    He wasn't excited about about the bench in front of the window (not to say I've ruled that totally out) but I moved tables around and put the web chair in the corner.

    Because of the pillows, you actually don't see whatever nightstand that's on my side until you walk in the room more.

    I like it the way you have it now. Love the web chair in the corner. Really stands out when you talk into the room. Also the round table looks nice with both the bed and the chair. From the height of the lamps it seems both are about the same height. Also like the look of the chair with the table. Not too heavy looking.

    If you're ok with a table and it feels right for you, go for it!

    Shee: I think you've got it! If you move things around enough, you finally get the layout that works the best. I love the web chair in the corner and best thing is you already have it and does not require reupholstering or anything. I think the skirted table is more feminine and so looks better for your nightstand than for your DH. I prefer it to adding another square wooden piece in your room. It adds a lot of interest and a nice transition between the web chair and iron bed. I think since we are more concerned with how things look we are more apt to make the effort to put things away, but for our DHs where it is less of a priority, we need to make things very easy for them; hence makes sense he has the nightstand with drawers and you perhaps can work with a decorative box, trio of stacked suitcases, basket below bed, etc.

    Arrrg! I keep getting a crazy landscape pop up tonight! It REALLY needs to stop because I can barely function on this site.

    “I think the skirted table is more feminine and so looks better for your nightstand than for your DH.”
    I think that’s part of the reason he didn’t want to use it. I asked if it was because there were no drawers or because it wasn’t very masculine looking. He got a big cheesy grin and said both! : )

    I do really like having drawers but I believe I could adjust to a basket or something that’s not in sight for my side.

    I still like the bench idea but would like to use this chair somewhere. I may need to live with the arrangement for awhile before I decide on anything.

    The skirted table or chair feels like one of them could be a bit bigger. Could be I’m not used to seeing it. If I were to use a tablecloth, what would you go with? I’m willing to try burlap in here but thought maybe it would be too light.

    I think you've got it! Don't think you didn't accomplish something moving all the furniture around! You did! You found out THIS is the way that is most comfortable for you! I like the nightstand on his side, I also like the skirted table and chair. I don't think the nightstand and dresser look cramped. It looks great! All that's left is finding the right size table and skirt. Sad for all of us as I think we have been very entertained by your never ending energy!
    O M G I'm going to shoot GW or my computer! I keep getting "The Talk" popup everytime I hit a key! ARRRGH!

    I also wanted to comment that I noticed the brown throw at the end your bed in your previous pictures...It looks nice.

    shee- you are really like an energizer bunny. I wish I had your energy.

    I don't like the look of the bed in front of the window. The windows with the grills and the style of the headboard seem to make it look busy IYKWIM. You chose a great bed, I wouldn't put it in front of the window. Also, I think you mentioned using some romans or wooden blinds or something with your drapery? I think that is going to be a pain to raise/close the window treatments with the bed right in front of the window.

    The space seems much tighter with the bed in front of the window as well.

    Didn't read every post, but have you definitely decided you don't want to move a piece of your "set" out to another place in the house? I think it would be an interesting look to move the tall chest into another area of the house. It would free up some space, allowing the room to look larger and take out the matchy matchy thing.

    With regard to closet use - I'm getting the impression that you want your DH to have a chest or bureau? I wanted to use my bureau differently, so I did my own custom shelving in my walk in closet. Installed everything DIY. DH didn't like the stuff at HD or Lowe's with the shelves that aren't solid. We purchased the wood & other supplies to put an additional bar (tops/blouses/jackets on top bar, skirts, jeans, shorts in summer, etc. on bottom closet bar). I have one closet bar on the other side of my closet for dresses and suits. We did our own version of California Closets. Actually went to see the set ups IRL and chose pieces that would accommodate all of my clothing. Baskets on shelves for undies, socks, tights, scarves. Everything fits with just a few exceptions. Worked out well as the dresser that came with our BR "suite" while beautiful to look at, was not at all practical to house my clothing. I have always had to store off season clothing, but that's just because I have waaayyy too many clothes.

    The long bureau is now used for extra bedding, put in drawer organizers for my jewelry, and other things like that. No clothing. Our bedroom "suite" was a wedding gift from my parents. We chose all of the matching pieces. If I had to do it over 25 yrs. later, I would not have purchased a "set".

    Thankfully, we have evolved over the years, and switched out the matching headboard that came with the suite. Replaced with a pewter finished metal headboard. No footboard - dogs can't jump over, lol. MIL had a friend who is master woodworker design a bench for the end of the bed for me one Xmas. She had stayed at our place to dogsit, and felt the BR needed a place for the decorative pillows/shams, etc. during the nite. It is a great spot to sit and put on shoes, wait for the bath to free up. Really just a nice addition that changed the matchy look to a more layered look.

    While our BR suite is antique oak, we have the metal headboard, metal bedside table lamps in a pewter finish. Marble topped bedside tables - 2 different styles along with an antique cherry rocker we brought from our FR into our BR when DD was born. Now all very different woods and metals combined for a more mixed/layered look.

    Love the idea of a bench under the window in your room. The bench posted by roseabby would be a nice addition to your room. You could even add a nice throw to wrap up in if you are cold. A place to add an unexpected color that will work toward that layered feeling in your inspiration pic.

    The look you are trying to achieve IIRC (inspiration pic - was it a RL pic?) to me, seems to be very layered, and put together with things that are not matchy matchy. I have finally learned that just because I purchased a piece for a certain spot in our home, there may be another place it works or looks better.

    Must have missed something, what happened to your bedskirt?

    Prefer the wood chair vs. the skirted chair your BR. If you are staying with the skirted table, I think the skirted chair may be too much skirting?

    Anyhoo, thanks for sharing your bedroom reno. Definitely gave me some needed motivation to change things up a bit in our MBR for winter. Unfortunately, there is only one place in our 18x22 BR where the bed can be placed due to the huge windows we installed.

    Can't wait to see your finished MBR!

    Kmcg- I see you were getting annoying pop ups last night too. That was terrible!
    You’re thinking the round table could be a bit bigger? Do they make an in-between size? That is the 20” D. A 30” table would be too big. The height would be 5” taller than the other nightstand.

    Always- I agree it looks better with the brown at the end. I think that throw works ok but I’d like to find something a little longer on the sides. Plus, I use that brown throw in the LR to cover up. : )

    Work- Ha, looks a little odd without a bedskirt, eh? It’s being altered. I have some other items coming from Nanny2a but we’re waiting on fabric.

    I agree with you about the bed by the window. I think it took away from the headboard.

    I do want to add romans but they’ll be mainly for looks. I’ll close the curtains at night. I would’ve had a hard time doing either with the bed by the window.

    I’d like to keep those pieces in the room. I prefer things not to be total matchy match too but I bought them on CL for a great deal and they have a lot of storage space which we need.

    “With regard to closet use - I'm getting the impression that you want your DH to have a chest or bureau?”
    ? The tall dresser is his. I was concerned about him having storage for a nightstand. I think I need to check out some photos of closets or go see some set ups - not sure where. I have my socks and all that stuff in my long dresser and it would free up some more space to use bins in the closet instead.

    The inspiration photos was from the book Feather Your Nest. It is very layered and I love that room. Since my houndstooth pillow fabric isn’t the same I honestly haven’t been able to look it at anymore. I like my pillows but those houndstooth ones are a main thing of what drew me to that photo.

    For now I’ll keep the web chair there until I can get a bench. I think the bench will look better in the space and break up that gap between the bed and window. Hey Roseabby, want to ship me your bench? ;) I guess I should do some mock ups!

    Did you see the bench on Overstock, it is a red tufted leather bench that can be used as storage. It is has a contemporary look to it. Might look good in your space, check it out.

    I think Work in Progress must be a long-lost sister LOL. Geeze - our bedrooms sound so much alike! No matchy-matchy for us either, a chest at the end of the bed, DIY closet, and both suggested moving a piece of furniture out. LOL

    Shee - I like the table and chair in the corner and think you could use a larger round table. I also think burlap might be a good choice for the cover. BTW, burlap comes in different colors.

    I just love how this is all coming together!!

    Tina - Chair in corner vs. bench by the window?

    For the burlap I'd like to find something already made and they seem to be the pretty standard lighter burlap colors, which might be fine once I get the room painted, etc. I could probably make one but don't really want to because I heard burlap makes your sewing machine fuzzy/messy and I don't know how to take it apart.

    I wish I could finish this all up now but I'll probably have to wait until January to get the paint, curtains, new rod and bamboo shades. *grumble, grumble*

    No, I wasn't thinking it was the wrong size table, I was going on one of your replys about whether you thought that size was correct. You sounded unsure. I didn't know if you were thinking of a different size. Anyway, don't forget about the site Nanny had linked to that had burlap cloths for a fraction of Ballard's sale price! I would go with a glass top too!

    Here is a link that might be useful: custom table cloths

    Ordered mine! FYI, they also have a tablecloth calculator if you are unsure of what size cloth for your table. Handy to have. All you need is the diameter and drop length or height of table. Mine was a bit larger at 38" diameter and a 29.5" drop giving me a 97" cloth for $42!! WooHoo! Take that Ballard's!! :)
