Benjamin Moore Indian White?

Has anyone used this? I saw it in a BHG article recently which made it look like my ideal veryverylight taupe, nice both against wood trim and white, and an ideal background for art. But a Google search turned up some blog pics which make it look more like the old "flesh"-colored crayon in the Crayola 64-pack. Ick.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Ahhhh, the old OC-88. Depends on where you look - it has 2 names, not uncommon with Ben Mo. It's also known as Dove Tail.

First, I'd throw the word Taupe out of your vocabulary - there is no color name that is so universally mistaken, mis used or misunderstood!

Indian White/Dove Tail is definitely not a taupe. Taupe is cool, IW/DT is warm. It's a lovely and soft and crosses over from an off white into a pale color. Not a bad thing but it's not off-white if that's what you're after. It's not a flesh tone, either. Think very pale chamois Want me to send you some Ben Mo paint brochures?

DLM and anyone else who'd care to comment: how about BM Everlasting, Capri Coast, Carrington Beige, and/or Litchfield Gray?

You were here and didn't even send up a smoke signal??? (like that Indian White reference?) Geesh, you had to run out to Sunset or Jewel to pick something up, didn't you? - we probably crossed paths!!!! NEXT time....... a little warning and we can grab a cuppa something.

ps - .....veeeeery light, warm, brown. No green undertone, no pink..... yup, that'd be beige in my world ;-)

running out, I'll try and come up with a few ideas later.

Try BM Bone White that is a light warm beige with no pink or green undertones and is slightly darker than the Dove Tail since I had looked at both. In fact BM Navajo White is very close to Dove Tail = Indian White.

What about BM Gentle Cream OC 96?
It looks like a color without the pink or green undertones a soft beige, but a tad darker than Indian white.

I'm not sure how you'll get no red or green undertones in a beige/brown...e.g. litchfield gray is reading red to me, and carrington beige is reading green. Everlasting reads yellower than either of them, but still tending red...but all varies wrt light and juxtaposition...I have Brandon Beige up on three adjacent walls and it's a completely different color on each of them, and at each time of day.

IMO you just have to realize the undertones (through big samples -- I started painting them on acrylic paper and that's the best so far, less expensive than posterboard) and see what you can live with.

Thanks, you guys. Deb, I promise, next time I'll bug you beforehand! This was a flying visit, just a few days with Thanksgiving bang in the middle of it all. I barely saw anyone outside the family. (although my sisters and I managed to do a cousins' reunion -- folks we'd been close to as children but had lost touch with as grownups. We took over a huge table at Buca's in Wheeling, ate and drank enormously, and were so loud and obnoxious that other diners requested to be seated in other rooms... lots of fun!)

Lynn, anew, thanks for those recommendations: I'll check them out. Fly, you're right, of course, and while I am terrible with color sensitivity on a monitor, I am VERY sensitive to colors on the wall. (can you look at the other ones listed here and see which tend red and green to you? I'll only order the red tones, probably...) What is acrylic paper, asked the clueless wonder?

Any other recs for a very pale beige? And meanwhile I'll work on pics of the room...

ok, I am doing carrington beige BM with the acadia white trim. Crossing fingers, I will post a picture tomorrow. It just all depends on the lighting in the room.

bump, beige lovers... pics of carrington and brandon?

I originally had Indian White as my front runner, took it off because I thought I detected the dreaded "flesh," and now have placed it back in the running as I'm trying to steer clear of overt yellow reads. I'm going in circles.

I have a little grid of 9 squares painted on my dining room wall, close to where I'm sitting right now...all light beige/offwhite. I will say that Indian White and BM Navajo White aren't alike at all IMO.

I just had all of my upstairs bedrooms, my kitchen and my powder room painted Indian White. I don't have my trim up and the floors aren't stained yet so a picture wouldn't do the color justice, but I don't see it as flesh colored at all. In the light at my new house, the color has a yellow/golden undertone. It reminds me of really rich vanilla ice-cream It is my favorite color of all the colors I chose for my new house.

Once the floors are done and some trim is up, I'll post pictures. I have some pictures of Indian White painted rooms in my inspiration folder. I'll post some of those when I get a chance.
