Look what I just ordered!

They are glass blocks for Christmas (or anytime) decorating. I ordered these with just the pre-drilled glass block, so that I can create my own look. I will put clear lights inside of mine and decorate with ribbon (like a gift) as seen below.

I ordered from this vendor. Very nice to correspond with and she is drilling holes in the side for me, instead of the back.

I like the look of this one.

You can paint them and have a back glow.

Or, put colored lights inside.

My mom made a bunch of these one year for a craft show.

    How beautiful!

Those are pretty wrapped as packages, they'd look great scattered under the tree or on a table ;)

I received one with white lights and a gold ribbon for a gift a couple of years ago. It's so beautiful.

That's nice that they drill the holes for you. My dh drill the holes withe the special bit and we still had a mess. I cut my finger pretty bad trying to get the lights in. At least that was a one time event! I had forgotten to display mine this year and my grandmother noticed and asked where they were. I need to get those out (I have 3 of different sizes).

I have a rectangular (slight wave-but-clear design) block that broke through the middle somewhere, so I put in a picture and glued it back together, and it's so pretty - kind of like a ship in a bottle.

I ordered two, so that I can have one present laying flat and the other standing upright. I think the blocks are the prettiest with the wave glass, clear lights and see-through metallic memory ribbon. I plan to wrap the rough edges with one ribbon and then tie off a cross pattern on top.

I thought about buying my own bit and giving it a try, but after reading many reviews, I decided that it was more trouble than worth. I wish I could have bought a third block (three to a grouping), but the cost and the shipping prohibited it this year. Maybe I can find a deal on eBay after Christmas.

A dear friend made one and gave it to me for my birthday last year. Since my bd is in Dec she put a
beautiful silver bow on it with clear lights inside. Guess what I use it for?

On the back of my commode tank as a night light when my DGD is here. Then if I have to get up
with her in the night we can see.
She loves it and tells me how "beeee-ute-e-full" it is every time.

When master bath was built a couple yrs ago, I had DH put an elec outlet behind the commode
where you couldn't see it just for a light on tank if I wanted one.
    Perfect for that gift .

You just gave me an idea! We have an outlet near our commode, so I could put the "presents" in a corner, on the floor and "light up" the bathroom for the holidays!

    My glass blocks came in!

I ran out of ribbon, so the sides are not wrapped (I don't think they need to be). Also, I could not find white stranded lights, so had to go with the green. The following photo was made this morning, but at night the green strands do not show up.

Both the blocks need a little tweaking, but I was too excited to get the lights in and turn the blocks on. I'll re-do with white stranded lights for next year.

Newhomebuilder, thanks for sharing this great idea. My DH also thanks you, LOL, for giving him something to do tonight as I don't think he had anything better to do other than drill holes in glass blocks for me to decorate for Christmas.

I'm going to use leftover blocks and stagger them up the staircase and if I can find weatherproof ribbon, I might try the same thing outside, too. I LOVE this idea, there are endless possibilities for decorating glass blocks this way.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone here at GW!

I get the same effect every night at my 2 block walls at spa tub, from outside xmas lights...LOL

My mom gave me this block that she bought somewhere a few years ago. I added the ribbon and lights because I needed a little more ambient light at a Christmas party I was decorating for. This block is open on one end which you can see on the left side of the picture. No need for drilling. I just put that side to the back except to show you all.

That is really great! I wonder if you can purchase them that way, now?

I'm assuming you can as it is very uniformily cut and the edge is finished.

Then why the heck did I pay good money to have someone cut a hole in the blocks for me...not to mention all the other people that are paying for them, or drilling their own holes. LOL

I suspect that your block is an older version that is no longer made, but I will sure look when I head to Lowe's next time.
