Drapery Rods

I can't seem to get one room finished in this house!

This was supposed to be a simple project of resetting new rods higher & wider to let more light into the room and restyling the drapes so that they hang straight from rings. My drapes are almost ready, but I can't find a decent rod locally!

There's a big honkin' chandelier in this space & I'm having trouble finding rods that look right. Should the drapery rods coordinate with the chandelier? I didn't choose the chandelier & my husband refuses to change it.

I've tried 1 3/8" dark wood rods. Tried 1" ORB from different manufacturers (The finish differs greatly between manufacturers!)-The one ORB rod I did like doesn't offer matching rings! The rods there now are wooden 1 3/8" antique goldish color.

Will I have to custom finish rods myself? Am I overthinking this?

Help! Where do you get your rods?

I expect that you ARE overthinking and that to get something that blends will be fine.

However, I question why the ORB you liked does not have rings. Can you check the brand online to see if rings are available? Did they just not carry them at the store?

And do you like the chandelier? I was looking at your room and even thinking black iron might look good. It would not be a match at all to the light, but maybe that would be a good thing. And if the chandelier is not appealing anyway to you, why not buy the rods you like, then, go to Michaels and get a little $1 bottle of craft paint in dark bronze or black or whatever fairly matches the new rods....get a sea sponge or a brush and redo the metal on the chandelier? I am NOT crafty at all....yet I have done frames and mirrors and even some lamp bases like this. Pieces that don't see movement (like the rings sliding on your rods) are particularly good for this cheap and easy makeover. If you don't like the paint as it's going on, you can wipe it right off with a damp cloth. I bought several colors when I did my crappy $10 garage sale spacesaver and just kept working with it to get it "coppery" looking. Granted, I sprayed it black first, but that's because it went out into the yard easily, which you cannot do with the light fixture.

We got really nice metal rods from Hope Depot which had different pretty finials at the ends at a very reasonable price. I'm not a fan of wood rods and from what I can see in decorating magazines the thinner metal rods are being used a lot, and I for one really like that look. With all the wood you already have in that area an antique gold metal would like very nice. When everything is matchy/matchy you can lose the vitality and freshness of a room.

Hello ingrid! I did see your DR rods in another post and really like them. The rods I've been testing are from HD, but I didn't see any antique gold there, maybe I need to check again. Yes, exactly! There's too much wood! I really don't want to do wood rods, I like the 1" metal rods. I'm afraid that if they are any thinner, they won't look right/be sturdy. I'll go check HD's website now.

Redbazel: Your Spacesaver came out great! I want to keep this as simple as possible considering I have many other projects throughout the house :)
