Vacuum Cleaner

I am seriously considering purchasing a Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Have any of you purchased from vacuum-direct.com? If so, what was your experience with the company?

Also would appreciate comments about your experiences with the Dyson.

Generally, I like it. I have the Animal. It works great on hard floors and low nap carpeting, but it sucks, and not in a good way, on my new high pile carpeting. I tried everything. It bogs down and I can't move it, and I was afraid it would damage the carpeting, so I had to resort to a shop vac. If you buy one, you don't have to pay retail. I got mine with a 20% off coupon.
I'm looking for suggestions for another vac that works on shag-type carpet? Maybe a canister with a plain - no beater brush - head?

Have not purchased from that company, but I do have a Dyson DC07. I love it, but I have to be very careful with my rugs. It really pulls on the edges and will catch any snag. Even with that, I wouldn't trade it. I have looked for other cleaners that aren't as rough on rugs, but to get the quality of the Dyson I'd have to spend alot more. We've noticed a huge difference in my youngest daughter's allergies and this alone is reason enough to by another one when this ones dies.

I have a dyson not from that company but I love my dyson - it is the animal upright - only complaint heavy as heck. Next time I will get the ball ...I say next time as I am a dyson lifer.. Highly recommended.

Another Dyson lifer here. Ours was a gift but we have a Dyson Animal and I wouldn't be without it. Most of our house is plush carpet and it does a wonderful job. We also use it on the vinyl with no problems. We have three long hair cats.

I have a Dyson and an Oreck. If I had to keep just one, it would be the Oreck.

The one I am considering is the DC25 All Floors which weighs just a little over 16 pounds. I do have a Toy Poodle who sheds extremely little, so decided I do not need the Animal.

someone, would you mind stating why you would keep the Oreck?

Let me tell you. I have a Hoover upright. Nice vacuum. When we added hardwood, I bought a Dyson.

I've been using the Dyson for over a year now, not the Hoover. Love it.

Just yesterday I decided to use the Hoover on the carpets in the bedroom. It felt like I was pushing a ton of rocks!

Dyson is not only lightweight, you can buy it in various sizes, and their swivel head is great! It's so powerful the dusbunny's comes to it, not the other way around. lol

DH and I got a Dyson Animal as a wedding present from my parents. That thing is awesome. We've had it a little over 3 years and it runs like a champ... picks up everything. I am always amazed by how full the canister is, even if I just vacuumed a couple days prior.

But I will say, it is heavy.

Thank you all so much. I did notice that the 4-wheel animal weighs a lot more than the ball animal. So believe the ball is the way to go. Again, thank you.

Dyson makes an Animal version of both the 4-wheel and the Ball. Animal version or not, it is the same vacuum cleaner but the Animal version includes the mini-turbine head to use on furniture to remove dog/cat hair.

I've never used a Dyson, but I wanted an Animal for Christmas. My husband did some research and looked on Consumer Reports and ended up getting me a Miele instead. I love it! It's not exactly light, but I don't find it terribly heavy, and it has so much suction that it literally takes off on its own. It does suck up rug edges if you're not careful. It has several settings including a drapes setting that has less suction. One of the awesome things about it, and I don't know if all good vacuums do this since I've never had a "good" one, LOL, but when you lock the handle upright, the brush/beater turns off automatically so you can use the tools without hurting the carpet. My old vacuum didn't do that and I burned the carpet with it sitting in one spot while I used the tools. You can also turn the brush off if you want to use it on hardwood, etc.
