Sink Colors

The builder told me today I need to get busy on picking out a kitchen sink for the cabinet maker. I want a cast iron sink and have it picked out in the link below.

My question is, does the sink just HAVE to match the white appliances I'll have?

I can't send pictures because the demo hasn't started yet, but will soon. Here are the colors of what the new kitchen will be to give you an idea.

Appliances - white

Cabinets & Drawers - Cream/off white

Wall, what little there will be to paint - VERY light yellow.

Floor - Checkerboard ceramic tile in Rust and Dark Cream.

Granite countertop - Blonde with black specks.

Backsplash - white subway tile.

The open dining room next to the kitchen will have the same yellow walls.

My kitchen will basically be retro with lots of green, yellow and red depression glass.

Please tell me either the yellow or the tea green sink will be great! lol.

Here is a link that might be useful: Sink Colors

I have that sink, and love it! Have had the Executive in my last three houses. Personally, I think you would be making a mistake to get it in any other color but white.

I had that sink in my old house and loved it too! I think, for resale purposes, the white would probably be the way to go, but I think it'd be gorgeous in either yellow or tea green and if you aren't worried about resale, I say get what you want!

Oh, I'm not worried about resale. But would the room look off if I got either the yellow or green sink?

I am loving the sound of all this, but I am worried about the counter material. Do you have a picture? I am just thinking that the sink should be a focal point and if the counter is visually strong, they will not play well together. I also think you can do the yellow sink if the paint color coordinates with that yellow. The green could work too, but there is nothing else in the kitchen that is green...except decorative accessories. That would point toward the yellow, I think.

Sounds like you have a great vision and I can't wait to see the outcome!

Yellow is my favorite color so I hate to say this, but it's not a good sink choice. I actually agree with the others that you should stick with the white for the sink.

That said, I don't want to sound negative, but white on white one white on white, may be well..too much white. Maybe you can inject some pops of color with the yellow or the green (or both) in your tile back splash by randomly switching the tiles for colored ones.

Definitely stick with white. Matching appliances or matching countertops is the way to go and will keep your kitchen balanced, use paint a a few sparingly placed accessories to add the color splashes.

We have black granite countertops and used an undermount extra deep black cast iron sink. It merges the counter well, and although all the appliances are stainless, the black sink just made the counter cohesive.

I think if you choose a different color you will regret it sooner than later.

1st post to this forum but I do post over on Appliances and Kitchens. I love Kohler sinks. Have you checked out sea salt? It is white but is 'spotty' in a way that adds depth and beauty to the sink. I know it adds $$ for the speciality color but it would compliment your counter tops.

I would suggest white because of backsplash being white and your appliances....I wouldn't introduce another color. It is a lovely sink...may you have many happy washings in it.

I'm going to buck the trend here with two provisos: IF you are not interested in resale and IF you truly love the color, I say go for it. But then, I love lots and lots of color and interesting details. Life is too short for neutrals.

I say I'm going with white subway tile, but I may change my mind once I see all the tile. lol. If I stay with the sub, I want little diamonds put in every foot or so, probably a deep red to match the floor.

The granite will easily accept yellow or green. And I was thinking, people obviously buy those colors (did you see the gorgeous pink and rose? lol), and they don't make appliances in those colors...so they're being used.

Oh I'll probably be a Safe Sally and get the white. At least it has a pretty style to the sink and I can buy a different fixture than what is shown.

Okay, I went and looked at all the wall surfaces that will be painted in light yellow. The walls above the kitchen cabinets will be that color, the walls in the dining room will be light yellow, although we only have one large wall there but that will have the bead board and wallpaper which has yellow in it. The hallway goes off the dining room so it will be painted light yellow too.

So there will be a LOT of light yellow in the area, and like I said, the granite is a light blonde color with specks, so I don't see what the problem is with having a yellow sink. I need to call Kohler and see if they can mail me a sample color of the sink before I'd get it. It looks like a very pale yellow in the picture which wouldn't stick out like a sharp yellow. At least it would break up some of the white, besides the rust and cream checkerboard flooring.

Surely someone here has a sink that's not the same color of their appliances?

I had a pale yellow sink in my old home and I loved it!!! It hasd nine feet of window above the area and it wasn't so glary like a white one when the sun shines on it. Do what you like, that's what matters.

Right on! I definitely think you should go for the yellow sink. It will add a terrific "punctuation mark" to your lovely kitchen, and besides, I just really like it when people do the unexpected. Anyone can stick to all white ... why not break out of the box and do what you really like (and it sounds like you've fallen in love with the yellow sink!)! Go for it!

If you don't want the white sink, why don't you go with a color that matches your granite. It's hard to know what you mean by "blonde", but if it's more of a beige, it might not work well with a yellow sink.

I also wonder about how well the granite will coordinate with what sounds like a retro kitchen. Personally, I'd rather see the yellow sink with a simple white (or other solid color) counter. Don't give up yet Oakley!!

oakleyok, my kitchen is nearly the same colors as yours. We've got off-white cabinets (w/brushed-silver hardware), white tile backsplash and very pale yellow walls. And our DR also has the same yellow walls. I accessorize with bright colors.
However, we are slowly replacing our white appliances with SS. I've got a L-shaped countertop with a black glass and SS cooktop on the shorter side. We replaced our white sink earlier this year with a black one and it is very dramatic. I LOVE it! Everyone comments on how nice it looks in black and it really stands out. I'm glad I didn't go with white. Since we currently have a mixture of white and SS appliances I'd say going with a color different from your appliances will be just fine.

Thanks guys! I've always been one of those that colors outside the line and bucks trends. I know white kitchens are a trend, except I've been wanting one for 25 years so that doesn't count. lol.

The good thing is the cabinet maker is making me some "old fashioned" shelves here and there to put my depression glass on, so all the colors will coordinate. It will be like a "farm kitchen."

Now I'm leaning towards the tea green sink. lol. One wall will be a "show case wall"...it's the one which will have a tall shelf between cabinets and curved up top. The bottom cabinets will have legs on it. Since there's no water in that area, I'm going to use a bead board backsplash, and I've decided to use light green see through glass knobs and pulls for that section of drawers/cabinets only. They look like depression glass, it's on Restoration Hardware. Those will definitely look nice with the tea green sink.

Now I'm wondering if Kohler would have paint samples so I can be sure of the exact colors of the yellow and green. I know this will have to be ordered online. If the yellow sink screams "Yellow!" to me, it's out. It looks to be a pale yellow in the picture, along with the green.

Get thee to a plumbing show room!!!

You cannot order a green sink without seeing the color IRL first. I have a hunch that the Tea Green will be very sage-y and not bright like depression glass green.

    (still pushing for yellow!) ;-)
