Need lighting help

We are moving into this traditional style house. The kitchen faces north as is extremely dark. I am planning to put recessed lights over the counter areas, but I have a problem. The owners put in this light fixture. It is pretty, but very dark. Any ideas on styles, sources? I just want something simple and light! It is in the traffic zone, so I think it may need to be a flushmount or not a very low hanging light. Thanks so much!

I would replace it with a 5 light track fixture. Ikea has several with flexible arms that are very reasonable. That way you can direct the light to where you want until you get more lighting installed. Undercabinet lighting would help a lot.

You could also try LampsPlus.com if there is not a store near you. I just went thru looking for something a bit smaller and was amazed at the prices and they are having a sale right now.
