Ebay Purchase turned Table Lamp

I was the sole bidder on a 13" x 9" 1950's tv lamp for DS guest room bedside table:

I'm going to stop buy the lamp shop and purchase a harp that's 1/2 shorter so the bottom of socket doesn't show. I've purchased several antique dog prints for the room too.

That turned out great, Allison! It will go so well with the room you're working on and the antique prints you have. Good score! ;)

Allison, that looks great! Sounds like it will be perfect for the room. You do such great things. My question is how would you find such a think on ebay? Did you go in search of such a treasure or happen across it? Enjoy!

    Thanks!

I already had an antique brown/tan Boston Terrier door stop and was thinking about using him...but I like him in my room. So I went on Ebay in search of "dog" and "dog lamp."

I don't remember tv lamps. I was born in 1960, so you'd think someone I knew would have had one! lol Does anyone remember them or did anyone have one? I need to research on the internet and see if they were popular.

    Love it!!!

I love it too Allison - great buy...if DS needs a place to store it for a while, please let me know :-p .

Dang! The scores on this board are completely amazing! What great ambience and style that lamp has. Such vision!

REally cute lamp - good score. I never heard of TV lamps - I remember TV dinners?

I have doggy lamp envy! You turned the lamp into a very rich looking piece.

Here is my doggy lamp that I bought at a garage sale for $5.

    Allison, that looks terrific!

How hard was that to do?

How does your daughter like it?

Yep, we had a TV lamp. I loved it and still do. I need to rewire it and find a place for it.

    Thanks!

I was going to do myself but there is a lamp shop nearby that nade a table lamp from a large wooden candlestick for me (only $12, plus cost of shade). I decided to let them do this one too. This shade was a bit expensive, but they last forever. ;)

It's for DS guest room - he attends college year round in Chicago.

What is your tv lamp shaped like?

Here is the candlestick lamp I had made:

Some of you might remember the cat lamp in my sunroom. She was used in our rooms since 1956, when my sister was born. Used to have a music box in the base that played the song from "As the World Turns."

....the dog and cat lamp are as far apart in the house as you can get. By the time you've gotten to his guest room, you'll have forgotten about the cat! lol

I have an old Boston terrier door stop I bought at Goodwill a few months ago. I keep moving it around because I don't know where to put it exactly. Maybe I should make a lamp. How would you do that? Love your lamp

Very nice work! I really like all of your lamps - lots of character in each one.

My grandmother had a siamese cat TV lamp. I was born in 1953, so they were certainly around in those days. My mom never had one on our tv, tho. It would have been too much clutter for her.

Do a search on Ebay and you can find lots of them.

The lamp you created is wonderful, Allison.

    Talented, talented, talented! Love it!

My mom has a black panther TV lamp from the 60's. She's getting older and I keep finding out that she is getting rid of stuff. She has strict orders that I want that lamp someday!

    Thank you all so much.

Terri, if you search the internet for lamp parts, you'll find several dealers that carry bases (wood, metal, marble, etc). They also sell all the metal parts necessary. Since this shop is so close, I decided just to have it made rather than DIY.

Les, my dad's family owned a furniture store. You'd think I would remember seeing a few. I'll have to ask Dad if they carried tv lamps. Maybe they were not selling them by the late 60's when I would have remembered. My grandparents did have a rather long black panther on their bookcase headboard. Wonder if it was meant to be a tv lamp? I'll have to do some searching. I always found it funny my diehard Southern Baptist grandmother had a panther in her bedroom! lol

Wow! I am so much not a craftsperson, but I think even I might be able to do this. Sadly, we don't have a spot for an animal lamp, even though we miss our 17-year-old cat who died a short while ago, but the candlestick lamp is amazing. We're going to need two new lamps for the MBR. I'll research what the item has to have to accommodate the electrical parts. This is inspiring. Thanks!

    That's looks great!

My mom had a tv lamp in the 70s. Black zebra with gold stripes, and a little planter area in the back for fake greenery. Blech!! :)

    That looks great!

Great job on the lamp! :-)

    Excellent job!! A wonderful lamp!

Allison~ This turned out perfect. I saw your dog prints and that room is going to look so good for your ds!!

TV lamps.... why was I picturing a tv screen in the middle of a fat lamp? Those were obviously before my time (or my family did not have class..... LOL). :oP

    Allison
Truly an inspiration! what an eye and creativity you have

I've seen the cougars, siamese cats, swan tv lamps - none of which compare to yours - imo

    enjoy!

I love it! What a great idea.

I am familiar with TV lamps--actually have one somewhere in my basement that I picked up at a tag sale. It is made of a variety of shells with a small nightlight in the back. Similar proportions to your lamp. TV shell lamps were very popular souvenir items even into the 70's (I spent my summers at a beach in Maine and worked in many tacky souvenir shops. I can clearly remember looking at those things and wondering who the heck bought them!).

Yours, however, is FAR from tacky, LOL!

I don't see where you said how much the tv lamp was -- was it inexpensive too?

I was browsing around looking at the dogs to see what was out there and found this. So, what do you think?

Now that's one squirrely squirrel. I think it's really calling out to you!

By the way, where does the name Squirrelheaven come from?

Is he too funny, he just makes me laugh! I have a garden where I feed the birds and squirrels and I just love those little guys. I like to feed them mixed nuts during the holiday season (when they go on sale :) So, since so many people actually dislike squirrels -- my place is Squirrel Heaven cause it's a welcome little haven for them! I've had so much fun with them over the years. Naming the babies too :) Luckily, I started feeding them before feeding the birds, so they don't annoy me for getting into all the bird food :) My whole family enjoys squirrels too, as well as watching the birds.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Squirrelheaven, I think the squirrel is adorable! He'd make a great lamp. I paid about $35 plus shipping for the dog. It cost $20 for labor/parts and the shade was $75 (silk). Not bad for an original, one of a kind. ;)

lol, it was a joke! But the more I look at him, he's so darn cute! I think he's English.

$35 is a great price. I've been browsing around and some of them do get quite expensive.

That looks great! Nice snag there!

As for repurposing things -- My DH had a buffet lamp that he made out of a clarinet! It was really cool but he gave it away to a friend (musician) before we were married.
