I am waiting on my door samples from Scherrs. I do know that they use Shermin Williams stains/colors. I ordered my with a clear coat. Painting/staining/finishing costs extra.

This is a premium cherry door, completely natural and finished by Scherr's. The door is solid wood, including the flat panel. It's color matched across the entire order and they do a good to great job of grain matching the boards that makeup the center panel.

Our former kitchen also had the cabinets made by Scherr's. The cabinets are better quality than Ikea and I believe they would last a lifetime in a living or dining environment.

They are frameless, tho.

I was also looking into Scherr's when I first started. Might still be an option today. Seeing how you used them twice, I guess that means the quality is pretty good. How does pricing compare? Is there anything they don't offer?

Not to derail the thread, but I assume the kitchen is all put back together again?

They are really well constructed frameless cabinets. I loved them but didn't have the time and the cabinet money this time. So I have visible Scherrs and invisible Ikea with some beams and hanging rails added. I loveth the doors and drawers.

We did install tableninsula. Now, I'm in Ref Hut Hell - actually, its up and I'm fixing up the sofit (code words implying the use of the reciprocating saw) prior to installing the hut hat (3 piece crown) that echos the house moldings. The crown is still doing its nails but should be out of the salon in time for its premier. We bought local fillers and moldings.

We were doing well UNTIL da,da,dum it appears my electrician has vanished - not with any of our funds or anything. I was kinda afraid he wasn't looking good the last time I saw him, and I haven't been able to raise him in three weeks of trying.

So, the new electrician is coming next week. We have small things that need to be finished and one failure to correct.

We installed them in our kitchen (red birch) and bathroom (maple). About 18 months old and looking and acting like new. Great cabinets; we are really happy.

You asked about price and it is all relative. We have Ikea in our laundry room, and they are considerably more expensive than Ikea for a number of reasons (custom, solid wood, etc). That said, they were cheaper than two other local custom quotes.

They will finish them or you can finish them. Before we ordered, we had them make a sample door for us. So, if you are curious about the different cherry options, then you can give Leon a call and he will make samples for you (not free but not expensive either).

Nice Cabinets bmorepanic, I actually just recieved door samples from Scheers and picked the same doorstyle, which edge option did you pick? I went with the bead on the sample and am not sure that its what I'm looking for, having 2 beads, 1 inside and 1 out.

I'm ultimately planning to do the IKEA thing now, I priced out the other options and blew the budget out of the water with pretty much all options. It seems to be the size of my kitchen. Since this is part of a whole house redo, going that far over budget is not in the cards.

475 and 500, 575 for drawers. Solid with edge M - its a micro bevel. My crappy photo skills can't capture the nice warm brown-red and how nice the match is.

I did my den with Scherr's. I opted to do the staining and finishing myself, which was quite a bit of work but turned out nicely. The quality of the cabinets is excellent.

I had Scherr's build me a desk as well.

Thanks to all for your help. I am actually looking for the same type of bookcase I could see in chiefneil's post, mine would be 40 wide, 84"high (bottom 15" deep with door and top 12" deep open shelves + shaker molding). I am also looking for a bench (18"deep and 14' long) but the price at KraftMaid etc is about $3k. Could you give me an idea about the price? Believe me or not, from Cabinet makers I got $7k quote. I would love to have them stain the cherry. Is it complicated to put together? I can do ikea assembly easily but never done a serious real wood assembly....seeing all he pieces...I feel intimidated.....Please help/advise

Assembly is a bit daunting when you initially unpack everything, however the instructions are good and the actual asembly process isn't difficult at all.

I think my wall unit is about 12' wide by 10' high. There are quite a few things that raised the cost significantly, like the crown (large crown is very expensive) and base moldings, those pilasters/columns or whatever they're called, lighting, false panels on the desk, full extension drawers, solid hard maple desktop, etc. So it's a full-boat, throw-in-the-kitchen-sink setup. Delivered cost was around 11k I think, then I probably spent another $1000 on tools, finishing, lighting, and installation.

The entire project took about 9 months or so. A couple months of design work, a couple months for manufacturing/delivery, then the rest of the time finishing and installing.

Local shops gave me estimates of 20k+, so I'm happy with the overall value and I have some nice new tools in the garage to boot.
