I didn't see the "rule of thumb" but I would put the biggest sink that can fit in the base.

Sinks should be 3'' smaller than the sink base.

"Sinks should be 3'' smaller than the sink base."

hollysprings and I have had this argument previously, so I won't bore everyone with it again.

I've scooped cabinet sides for years without a single callback or problem.

I have to agree with Trebruchet. My sink has been installed fine for 8 years, and my contractor notched the cabinet sides to get it to fit. It's stainless steel; I don't know that I'd do it with a heavy fireclay or enameled cast iron sink. I would without hesitation notch the cabinet sides for a stainless steel and for a Silgranit sink. But we don't know that the OP would even need to notch the cabinet base; s/he hasn't given us any information.

To the OP - can you provide more info as to your cabinet size, and what sinks you are considering? I agree with Debrak that you should buy the biggest sink you can get to fit.

I can't help you with a rule of thumb, but as for not saving the results of your search. Have you looked through your browser's history?

linelle, re the browser, I sit here with my tail between my legs. I want to say "duh" to myself.

As the she OP, I am planning the space now, so I have many options. I do want to have the largest one bowl sink that would fit into no more than a 36" base. I am however, considering a smaller base to gain space in some drawers at the end of the run, but is it worth the 3 - 6" I would lose on the sink itself? Think I need to make a big box run, just to visualize it. I also need to step back from my computer for a few days. I am getting antsy.

Thanks hollysprings, makes sense to me. Thanks.
