Deep Kitchen Sink; Problem w/ Water Splashing

We just moved into a new place. I was able to pick out the kitchen sink I wanted, and the faucet. I chose a Swanstone Ascend sink. The left side bowl is about 10.75 " deep, including the countertop. The faucet is a Grohe Ladyluxe Plus. Now that we've been here for a couple of months, I'm realizing that water splashing is a real problem. Someone on another thread mentioned faucets being aerated. How do you know if your faucet is aerated? Is it possible a part wasn't installed in my faucet? Or did I make bad choices for the sink/faucet combination without realizing it?

I have this faucet. It may help to know that even with really reduced water pressure that the Watercare version uses (has the 1.5 gpm insert) and the aerator installed - it splashes all over he^^. I have an 8 inch deep sink and the drain is exactly under the faucet. The faucet at full force into an empty sink doesn't splash. The faucet at full with just about anything underneath it will splash like heck.

I'm kinda convinced it has to do with the height of the head over the sink and the angle of the water flow. I'm probably not helping as I treat the lever as on/off and just about never turn the volume of flow down.

If you can train yourself not to do that and not to push objects into the flow above the sink, it can help. I'm pretty sure the slightly less splashing is not worth the agro of having to be that careful.

The faucet will have an aerator usually on the end where the water comes out. It will feel like a mesh strainer. If you can just stick your finger up the faucet, then it is missing the aerator. This is how it is on all of my older faucets. Not sure if they've changed the aeration in 25 years, but my guess is no.

See the small part #6 that is behind the head of the faucet? That is probably your aerator. This isn't the type of faucet you can just feel a hole to know if it is there or not :) (I have two Grohe faucets... one is that type, one is like yours...)

Oh-I see it is one there the head pulls away. You won't feel the aerator in that.

The aerator is in the spray head - not at number 6. Take that weird plastic wrench and unscrew that octagonal thing in the middle of the head and the aerator will come out into your hand.

Thanks for the responses. Although I'll check for the aerator (nice to know what the weird wrench is for) I tend to think the problem is the sink depth/faucet combo -- which really ticks me off.

We're installing a new sink & faucet in the kitchen of a 2nd home in the near future. Are there guidelines for the correct combo? Or is it mostly the fault of the faucet? I'd hate to make the same mistake twice.

I've been watching this thread because I'm trying to avoid this same issue. From what I've read before you are right on sblanker regarding the sink depth/faucet ratio. The trouble is there aren't any guidelines that I've seen.

I'm trying to be sensitive to this information but the selection out there makes it difficult. It seems like all the goose neck ones are about 16" - and I don't really care for the goose neck. I've seen a few pull outs but they look a bit out-of-style already. Costco had an off brand for about $80 the seemed better suited then others that I've seen. I really wanted to get their Grohe that's running on a coupon special now, but it's 16". The search continues.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, icannotwait. I really like the Swanstone sink. I don't have to worry about it chipping, like a porcelain sink, and I'm not a big fan of stainless steel. My sink is a dark brown that goes really well with the countertops. I read somewhere else that you shouldn't get a black or other really dark color because it will show every speck of dust, etc. Perhaps, but honestly? The kitchen sink gets way too much use to gather any dust. And I spray it down regularly.

As for the water splashing -- no, that's still an issue that doesn't seem to have a solution. The faucet was definitely put together correctly. It may have to do with the angle the water flows out of the faucet; not sure. In any case, it looks like I'm stuck with it.
