cheap Laminate over tile

So here is the deal. Got no response on the flooring forum, not enough traffic. This is mostly a kitchen question anyway. It's a small two person home, not a lot of traffic. Home depot has a great deal on some closeout cheap oak laminate flooring, the 7mm stuff (trafficmaster). I have a major depression with a really nice house that is dated in the kitchen area with tons of white tile on floor and countertops that looks good in pics, but I hate. My adult son that fancies himself a designer thinks I should put down a floating laminate floor over the hole thing (the tile). So below is a few pics of the way it is now and the way it will look with the flooring. If I do it plan to cover all the tile in kitchen, wash room, open living area and hall to back bedroom - love some comments on this.

I like the look that the laminate gives. My daughter has this laminate in the house she rents and it looks OK. It took us a bit to realize it was a laminate, and the reason we noticed at all is because of a poor transition from the family room to the tile kitchen. I vote: let the designer son do his thing as long as the price is right.

P.S. I trust the depression you referred to is your mood, not an actual dip in the floor. If you had a depression in the floor, that would make a difference in installation - but I think you mean the kitchen is depressing.

I don't know if there are any installation issues involved, but I think this sounds like a great way to improve your mood. :) If the pictures can be trusted (not always true), the floor is peachy and the cabinets are goldish. I'm a little concerned that in a large amount it's going to all run together, on the one hand, and and not quite match on the other. If you think it looks fine--you're there after all--go for it!! Be happy!!
