Cold feet - NOT!

We finally got the feet made, painted and on the cabs.

{{gwi:765356}}

Here's the view of the sink area. We made a drawer for under the sink and I love it. It is so convenient pulling it out for the garbage and soap. etc.

I'm not sure I'm happy with the stiles/rails panels on the dishdrawers and am thinking of having some made, powder coated white metal, that will look like the appliances of old. Or maybe I'll just sell the things since I'm not thrilled with them. It is the only place on the bottom that we have any raised panels but the few upper doors have them. What do you guys think? Do they look odd?

Oh, I love the feet! I'd love to add those to my sink base, but it would be costly to get matching stained wood from the cabinet co. That, and my DH would probably disown me for thinking up another thing to add to the kitchen.

I don't think the rails look odd; I didn't even notice the difference until you pointed it out. However, I did notice right away that the pulls appeared to be much higher on the DDs than on the other drawers. We placed our pulls closer to the middle like we did on our other deep drawers.

How long have you been using the DDs? Are they the KA ones? We have the FP ones (same except for the racks) and are very pleased with them. It took a little while to learn some loading tricks, but after that, we love them!

I love the feet and want to do the same!! Are they after market or did you get them from the place you got your cabinets? Did you install yourself?

I too had a hard time noticing the difference of the cabinetry covering the dw. I like it. I think it all coordinates well but lends to the vintage feeling that it is not all exactly the same. (As if you've added pieces over time.)

I LOVE those feet! and the rest of the kitchen.

I was thinking about your yesterday as I was warming up too many dishes I thought about your wonderful stove.....

Hi alku05! We put the pulls on the rails because they seemed to provide more strength to the drawers than the plywood in the middle, which isn't as thick. The other drawer fronts are solid poplar and 3/4" thick plus the thickness of the drawers. I like them not all being the same since the other drawers are all slab fronts but I certainly understand having them match, as well. My anti-match, eclectic self is probably just rebelling. ; )

We've been using the KA DD for about 10 months. They work well but just don't seem very roomy as opposed to a regular DW. If I find a shiny white Bosch that I like, I just may sell these. : )

Hi, sorry, didn't see the other posts. I'm glad to know the drawer fronts don't look terribly odd. They will have to do for now - too many other things to do.

tantadoodles, my DH made all the cabs and the feet. We looked at lots of pics before deciding on our style then I drew a template of them on some cardboard and DH transferred the design to the wood and cut them out. We are almost total DIY on this kitchen so yes, we did install them. I hope you can find ones you love, too.

Hey Leasa, good to see you over here! You are going to get so many wonderful ideas from these folks for your lovely Capen Cottage. : )

Oh, I wish I'd thought of that!!! How clever of you!!!

I think the dish drawers look fine. I combined flat and recessed. The top drawer on each of my banks is flat and the rest are recessed.

    Diana,

Re the dishdrawers, I think they'd look funny with flat panels! The frames on the panels echo the cabinet frames between your other drawers. Since the DW doesn't have those, this helps tie it in. In addition, the recessed panels gives the badge-light thingies a place to be. This way they're within the panels instead of on top of them. And since the drawer beneath the sink is a different texture, with the handle at a different height than the other drawers too, the combination looks right. Variety rather than one thumb ruining the symmetry.

'Course, if it bothers you it bothers you, and might be worth changing if it continues to bother you. But if you learn to like the drawers you might learn to like the panels :) I do.

    BTW, the feet are great!

OMG. I thought the first pic was a out of a magazine that you were copying! I swear I have looked at the pics too much. (Apparently, I am a kitchen stalker.) Your kitchen is drop dead gorgeous, Diana.

Are you in the finished kitchen blog? (I feel the need to stalk some more. Off I go to check.)

I love your kitchen and don't think you need to change a thing, but if you feel as though you need to change the DD you could check out the AGA DW panel (you'd still need to change the DW to one that takes custom panels). I belive Heartland Appliances also makes them.

Another option could be Frigo Design for metal panels that could be used on the dish drawers.

Ok, I am feeling sooooo much better about those panels. : ) Maybe it's just a case of working at something for so long that you begin to doubt your decisions. DH will be so happy to read your posts. He likes the panels and doesn't want to change them. Sons like them, friends like them, but you know I had to ask my fellow TKOers. lol!

Jenanla, thanks for the other ideas. I have looked at Frigo but thought they only made panels for traditional type DW. I will check out the AGA, just to satisfy my curiosity. ; )

KK, I'm not in the blog yet. We are still putting the finishing touches to this project - still need to put up the open shelves and finish the fridge cabinet. I am responsible for some of the hold up since I kept vacillating about what I wanted over the fridge. I think we'll go with a closed cabinet since I do need storage for sheet pans, etc. and I really like what I've seen others do on this site. Y'all are so bright. : )

Pillog, your perspective makes so much sense! See, I'm just too close to the subject matter to be objective. Thanks!

Thank you, Cameron and Natal. I see you posted on the Cottage, too. Too much multitasking for me, huh. ; )

    I think everything looks awesome!!

If you have the chance, can you show a pic of
your under-sink drawer in the open position?
I am trying to picture how the plumbing and
    stuff fits in. Thanks!

Diana, I just took note of that drawer under your sink. THAT is brilliant! :-)

I think the dish drawers are PERFECT. They are in keeping with the drawer under the sink and look just right. I can't imagine what you would have done differently that would look as good.

Your cabinets are beautiful and it is so wonderful that your DH built them.

I LOVE the feet. I LOVE your kitchen. Makes me wonder WHAT I was thinking, with this natural wood...(just kidding, I love my own kitchen -- but yours is breath-takingly beautiful)! You and DH are totally awesome.

Ok Vic, here are a couple more pics with the drawer open. The cut out in the back of the drawer allows it to clear the pipes at the back of the cabinet. DH used Blum undermount slides for all the drawers.

Here's the plumbing it has to clear:
    {{!gwi}}

If we were to do it again, I would rather have the sides of the drawer taller, just in case something were to fall over. As you can see I have room for everything I need, plus a small trash can. We don't generate a lot of garbage so it works fine for us. I realize this would probably not work for a large family.

I should add we have a large laundry/multi-purpose room just steps away that we have also made changes in. It has a larger trash can under a sink and then the garage where we keep the recycling bins is just outside of it.

Thanks, Debs. I'm feeling better about those panels. : )

Cameron, I really like having all drawers and just thought, why should we have two doors under the sink and go back to digging around for stuff when a drawer would work so much better for us.

Wow! Your cabinets are REALLY nice. What an amazing job you guys have done. I think that the panels look good. I like that they mix the look up a bit. I assume that you have cabinet doors that match this on the uppers. If you do switch to a regular dishwasher you might have the issue that we have in that it sticks out from the cabinets due to the need for it to form a seal. That is what I am really disliking about our Kitchenaid. Otherwise I love it because it is so quiet and it cleans dishes so well.

Seeing your cabinet feet makes me wish that I had placed more of them. I only had them made for the sink cabinet and for a hutch area. I really like them flanking the stove.

Can I ask about your house? What is its age and style?

Thanks for posting the drawer inside. Very, very clever. You know I'm coveting your kitchen. I keep coming back to drool over it.

    Cheers,
    Cameron

Diana, are the matching rugs machine washable and if so where did you find them? They look a lot like the cafe curtains I'll be hanging in my kitchen window.

Love the additional touches you've made to the kitchen. The feet are such a nice detail.
My opinion is biased, since I mixed flat panel drawers with framed cupboard doors in my own new kitchen, I don't see a problem with yours.
The drawer under the sink seems like such a good idea.
Always love looking at pictures of your kitchen!

Just have to tell you again how much I LOVE your kitchen. You guys done good!

Hey guys, sorry I'm so late getting back to you. Tis the season to be running in ten different directions. : )

Decodilly, we had our home built in 1990, so 17 yrs. old. We had always wanted an old house to fix up but loved where our property was located so we combined the two - a new home that we've added lots old-fashioned charm to. The style is farmhouse/cottage.

Natal, I bought the rugs at Target a couple of months ago. They were on clearance, less than $10 ea. if I'm remembering correctly. They're a little small but they'll do until I can find some others I like better.

I'll link to my site where we have more pics of our efforts. Hopefully, I will put the final pics up soon!

Thanks again for all your nice compliments! Claybabe, you are too funny. : )
