light my kitchen!!!

14 years ago

Ok, cabinets in. Floor in. Counter to be delivered on Thursday. I should be happy, but I can not focus on anything but the lighting problem. Originally, we were going to go with recessed cans. However, the quote, as it is a remodel and not a new construction was way over budget. No problem, my DH and I say, we'll go with track. Right. Here's were we have been so far;

1)I forgot one section of cabinets was counter depth, so we had to re-do that fixture.

2) After looking, looking, looking we finally agreed on some small track. We get it up, and besides that it is poorly made in chine (see other thread) you could operate by that light. So we get new bulbs to dim, as we already had a dimmer because we thought being able to dim the lights is important. - The dimable G24s Do NOT fit in the sockets !!!!

3) DH goes out and gets old fashion Tracks - they are dimable, can you energy star bulbs, etc - problems is, they are ugly and do not produce either enough or the right kind of light.

Right now I do not know what to do. I no longer care if they can be dimmed. I no longer care if they are halogens ( we wanted to stay away from those bulbs as we only have an 8 foot ceiling and halogens get very hot. The new window will let in more light, but as it looks onto an enclosed porch, it does not let in a ton of light.

I have gotten such great ideas from everyone's in put before. please help me once again. What would you put up?

Here is track without the shades as we are returning it. no go.

This is the space i have to work with.

Here are the old fashion tract that also will not work.
