This is the best I can offer you, so maybe someone else will have something real to show. It's on of the earlier incarnations of my kitchen in a rendering when I planned corner cabinets similar to yours. It has about the same amount of space as you do between sink and corner. Obviously my cooktop is a bit to the left of what yours shows, and my island will be 4 x 5.

Our last kitchen had a 3x5 island, and also a sink to stove similar to your plan, but with less space on the sink wall.

thanks for the help Rhome. I'm just trying to decide, before any construction happens if I'll be happy with that 4' area - 6' in all as I envision it to be my primary cooking space. I'm left handed, so it works for me to be able to prepare and reach over to the stove, but I can't quite seem to grasp if it will be too cramped. I think that I'd have all my cooking supplies above me, my canisters in the corner...

In the rendering, that sink is actually 3.5/5.5 ft from the adjacent cabinet edge and wall corner, so a little smaller than you plan...and my window makes for less upper cabinetry than you'll have...So I think you have a nice, roomy area. But maybe it depends on what you envision and/or are used to...and if your family might stack dirty dishes in your work zone.

In my old kitchen, it is 2 ft less from sink to corner than you'll have. I actually did my prep facing the stove, but to it's right, and on the island for bigger projects.

I think you will have plenty of room for prep.

No counters yet, but dimensions similar to yours. Total sink wall is ~13' long, island is 24"x78".

oh Weedy! That's perfect! My sink wall is actually 12'6" so that's just about exactly what I'm going to have so its good to see it live. And the island is good sized! Fabulous.

Rhome: thanks for the dimensions. there shouldn't be dirty dishes there - everyone is properly trained to rinse and put right in the dishwasher. HAHA!!

weedy - that's so weird.. my old kitchen (which I really enjoyed) is almost IDENTICAL to yours, except we had a window behind the sink! At first glance I thought it was MY old kitchen. Looks great!

oh othertime - I posted to you in your 'floor' thread the other day because yours looked EXACTLY like ours..so that's what got me thinking about this.

So how far is it from your sink to the corner?

I can't remember the exact measurement from the sink to the corner, but it definitely looks like it's less than the other pictures posted. I think you'll do great with that configuration. Here is ours.

totally forgot about that post I made. Sorry for not getting back to you. I am at work right now so I do not have the exact dimension. Off the top of my head...it is standard lazy suzan base corner (24" deep+ 6" to the next cabinet) and then a 24" base cabinet, then the a 36" sink base. So from the sink to the far left wall in the picture it is roughly 4.5 feet or so. Not to sure on the dimensions of the corner cabinet. I can measure when I get home to be exact. I love the layout because its pivot and two steps from the sink to the stove and then turn around and your at the island. Very workable conditions. Hope this helps.

othertimer - yes, I'd be curious as the the actual dimension when you have time...

ok, measured it up. From the inside sink lip (left side) to the corner (to the turn) it is 3 feet. From the sink lip to the far left wall it is 5 feet.

Ok that's perfect -so exactly 1 foot smaller. Thank you thank you thank you!

I luv your kitchen and I'm planning something similar. I am wondering what the work space dimensions are around your island. More precisely the dimension between island and range and island and sink. I am planning a similar work area with only 34 to 36" between island and sink etcetera. I Know everyone will "boo" at such a plan but in a small space you do what you got to do and there is only me in the kitchen. What do you think. thanks
