New Electrolux Induction range - problems with cookware

Hi,

We just bought an Electrolux induction freestanding range. Before we bought it we tested our current cookware (Lifetime stainless steel) with a magnet, all of it was magnetic except for one pot. Now that the stove is here we've tried the cookware on the burners matching them to the correct size. When I put a pot on the burner and turn it on, the touch screen burner ring turns red for a second or two and then the red goes away and the burner turns off. I've tried the burner with a cast iron casserole dish and it works perfectly. I'm confused now because everything I've read says that if your cookware is magnetic it should work on induction. So I'm wondering why my cookware isn't working.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Juli

Looking at the Lifetime web page shows the carbon steel magnetic layer to be one layer from the inside of the pot with multi layers of other materials on the bottom before the outside layer is reached. This is the opposite of the usual layer sequence for most other cookware. You might try putting one inch of water in a pot and select the highest power setting to see if that will work and get the water boiling fairly quickly.
If there is no response or slow response, time for new induction compatible cookware.

how strong was the pull when you put a magnet on it? I've had some that you could almost shake the magnet off the bottom of the pan, and others you had to get a good grip to get the magnet off the bottom of the pan.

Those with minimal "stick" didn't work. I have also encountered some, due to the layering, the magnet stuck way better on the side of the pan than the bottom, but it's the bottom that counts.

It's getting easier to find affordable induction pans. I bought a set of T-fal (not coated though) for about $100 and they are working fine. I had about three pans that would work so had to get something quickly -figured I could replace them later if I wanted. All the copper design has now worn off the bottom - thought it looked stupid in the first place.

We have an Electrolux induction range (bought May 2011) and we purchased Ikea pots and pans set for $69 CDN (3 pots with lids, plus a great frying pan) and have really really liked them. I especially like the frying pan it's teflon coated and cooks and cleans up beautifully (in fact, all the pots do). I highly recommend them. I did need a larger pot (I like to make double quantities of stews etc.) so got another much larger pot (with a magnetic bottom) from Winners for only $30. If your stove does not work with one of these pots, then there is surely something wrong with your induction burners.
