What color and brand of white did you use? Is the mantel the same paint color?

The paint is Benjamine Moore ,Buttermilk. When we bought the house, all colors were dark, made worse by few and small windows. The fireplace was dark red brick. All the woodwork dark brown. All walls ceilings, mantle and brick are buttermilk. All woodwork white. It made such a difference.

I think we bought the same house!!

Curious, did you you latex paint? Any primer? Was there any prep work to clean the brick?

To srpayne66, sorry for delayed answer, no primer but should have, took four coats. Yes latex. No special cleaning of brick just vacuumed dust off.

Wow, I had to do a double take. It looks just like our old house. We did the same thing in a similar room. You guys did a great job.

Wow I have not checked this post in years…..we sold the house with this living room years ago 2010 I think, we built a new house. The mantel is a fun story. Originally there was a thin brown stained wooden mantel shelf. I placed some candle sticks on it and left the room, when I returned I could see they were not sitting flat….the mantel was warped from the heat of the fireplace. When we decided to paint the brick that mantel shelf had to go. It was attached to several bricks that had been turned to extend out from the wall of brick. My husband is so very handy. To my complete surprise he started working on the mantle one week end. There would be tool noise in the garage and he would come in put a piece up and go back to the garage. The mantle gradually “happened”. I was so pleased.
