my boysenberries blossomed as well, but they dont look like any fruit has set behind the dieing flowers

Very nice. What variety are they? Do you cover them with shade cloth when it get real hot?

I planted four Apache last year. Two died. The remaining two are spindly and I will probably pull them up this week.

Do boysen /blackberries not take summer well? I have two of my boysenberries in southern exposure between two grape vines, they are newly planted so I haven't had much experience, should I move them right now before it gets too hot? I figured f the grapes can take this spot then the boysenberries should fare just as well you think?

*wabikeguy, not sure which variety, the tag has sun faded and I recycled the original containers ...

we have not shaded them at all since transplanting ... they're along a wall that faces EAST so they get afternoon shade ...

our berries were spindly as well, from our reading research, this is normal for the first couple years, but boy look out come year 3 ... :)

*mullenium, ours have survived well so far ... as have our grape vines which also have a southern exposure like yours ... :)

I got some boysenberry and marionberries blossoming and fruiting like crazy! Early fruit not so great though! I have mine where my Passion Fruit is (and its getting ready to open dozens of flowers), morning direct sun, afternoon shade. Mine are in the NE corner of back yard, shaded by the wall they are up against.
