I get e-mails from the West Coast of Cuba, and they are hopeing it stays on the West side, because they really need Rain.but I'm sure you don't share that view.

I haven't cleaned up the mess from Cindy yet!
The hummers fared very well, though, the blustery wind and rain didn't hurt them - as soon as the wind died down, they all came out and started feeding, squeaking, dancing, and zapping each other as usual!
The migrators haven't gotten here yet, at least not in their usual numbers.

What's rain?

I haven't seen that in months! It's soooooooo hot and humid out here in south Texas!!! Hate to say it but we have a love/hate relationship with tropical storms and hurricanes. We dread the danger and damage but sometimes wish we could get just the tail end of one for some cooler temps and the rainfall.

We have had some good rain from Cindy. Now we are waiting to see where Dennis going. Maybe between the Florida panhandle and the Alabama state line. Possibly the path of Ivan but who knows with these hurricanes. When we hear that they are headed into the gulf we just play the waiting game. It gets so weary listening to The Weather Channel. You just can't tell where landfall of there hurricanes is going to be until it happens.

As a rule we just get some wind and good rains. Sometimes it gets worse for us. At least we live about and hour or so from the coast.

When we retired here in the country, I don't think we moved quite far enough inland. I'm only 35 miles from the Gulf, and that's too close! :(

We're supposed to get the remains of Cindy up here starting tonight and all day tomorrow. NWS already has the Flood Watches up. Expected to get large amounts of rain here - possibly a whole month's worth in a shot. Many spots here have been dry (we're running a bit below normal ourselves here). But I'm not sure if the dry areas are going to get the rain from these various storms. PA supposedly has the largest number of rivers of any state and when they overflow, look out!

And so it begins....

Meanwhile, my little one was up early and back and forth to the feeder with shorter and shorter time differences between each visit. She's been really drinking enough for me to see an obvious drop in the level... unless there's another female coming here and I can't tell the difference other than maybe size. LOL

I appreciate the concern from everyone. It looks like we are going to be on the eastmost side of this thing. Really I am not looking for anything more than a rain shower or two. The wolf has howled so many times we don't pay too much attention.

Our construction company will be heading to the area hit by Dennis to work with FEMA and the Corp of Engineers.

Thanks NavyMom and all, I lived in Gulfport three houses from the beach just to the east of the eye of Hurricane Camille in 1969 - it was one of only two Category 5 hurricanes to ever hit the country, at least since they've been recording such things. I was still in Gulfport, though not close to the beach, in Hurricanes Frederick and Elena, and since we've retired to the country, we've had Hurricanes Georges and Ivan. I feel like a veteran!

There are gas shortages all around us. A friend coming from Orange Beach said that people were in lines up to a mile long around Pensacola where there was some avaliable.

The projected path is off us right now and it looks like those living on the Al/MS line are going to catch the brunt of Dennis.

Got some hummingbirds feeding and fighting right now. They don't seem to be phased by the threat of bad weather.

thinking of you all in florida and on the gulf coast as dennis approaches and hoping all will be safe. mimidi, oubliette, miss sherry, sparky, lee, tom, and all, post and let us know you're all right after the storm passes.

Just went out and put my Kabota tractor on one side of my trellis with my moonflower visne and purple hy. bean vines. Put a heavy glass table on the other side. Will add cement blocks tomorrow. Last year Ivan just pulled the trellis out of the ground along with the vines.

Gasoline is at a shortage here and the shelves at the grocery stores are empty when it comes to canned goods. My family plans to move in with me tomorrow afternoon. Our family deacon called earlier and told us all church services have be cancelled for tomorrow.

We are not really looking for any bad weather but Oubliette, Miss Sherry, Sparky, Lee, and Tom could be looking at a bad blow. I am praying for ya'll to come out safe.

My hummingbirds are working over time feeding this afternoon.

Dang and Double Dang!! This sucker has wobbled to the east. We are not ready for this.

I did move my Kabota tactor to the back side of my trellis that has moonflowers and purple hyc. vine growing on it. I do hope that this will keep it from being blown over. Dennis is not supposed to come this way!!!!

I thought we were in a safe zone.

Holy Cow Mimidi I hope you guys make it thru this one.Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your families the next few days.Somehow the hummers seem to survive these annual events unscathed.

Mimidi, and all, in those southern states.
I allways envy your early hummers and the quantity of them but those hurricans will keep me up north. If it was me I wouldn't be able to walk with knees shaking so bad. Hope all stays well with all of you.

Stay safe, Mimi, Miss Sherry, Alan, Sparky Lee, and Tom. I sure hope this storm doesn't do as much damage as it appears.

I'm far enough north that it will not cause the destruction that the coastal counties get, but it looks like the winds from Dennis will hit my county dead on. I guess I will be bringing all my potted plants indoors today.

Take care all of you down there! I was surprised that Cindy's remains still had some winds left when it finally came through here, enough to knock some of my stuff over and down some weak trees around the area that were water soaked. I know what full hurricanes can do!

Whew! I'm feeling so lucky and relieved!
I've been getting blustery winds and rain, but not as bad as I had in T.S. Cindy, which was a strong tropical storm that came right over us. The hummers have been feeding right through - they're not hurt at all! Some of my butterflies emerged this morning, so I've just kept their cages covered so they'll just "hang around" and I'll release them tomorrow morning.
I'm think it may be worse for Oubliette and Mimidi than me - I dodged another bullet!

So glad to hear your okay Miss Sherry!! I put the news on and they mentioned Mississippi I started worrying about you I hope Mimidi and Oubliette are okay! Cindy came by here last friday and dropped a couple of inches on us too but nothing like what you guys get. Sarah
