New couch

We have lived in our home for more than six years and have finally found a sectional that fits! We previously had a couch and two chairs and the room always felt uncomfortably unbalanced. Excited to have a leather one and not have to constantly scrub a fabric couch for kids' messes.

We love the couch, love the new floors but are wondering about how to bring it together: is the wall color okay? Note one so a white (the one with the painting) and the other is I think Benjamin Moore Rice Paper or Relaxed Khaki). I think the carpet helps unite the various colors...agree? Any other suggestions? Finally, the color comes in dark dark brown (Haverty's Galaxy Sectional). I think that color would have been too imposing since the room is so small. What do you think?

These windows remind me somewhat of yours. I think your windows with shutters would nice flanking the fireplace.

Window treatments would really bring the space together. This space is warm and inviting. Here is an idea.

amalids, I'm not a pro but like the color of your sofa more than a dark brown. The rug looks like a good fit with the sofa. It's hard to tell for sure on my screen...one paint color has a yellow-ish tone and the other (on wall with painting) almost a pink-ish tone. Again...could just be my screen, the lighting, etc. I think some type of shade would be nice on the windows. I'm also wondering about plantation shutters. We have them pretty much all over our home and love them. I was concerned they might "close the rooms in" but in fact did the opposite. Love your floors!

Can you move the sofa to the left of the fireplace 8-12 inches so that when you look straight at the fireplace, the sofa is not encroaching on your view of it at all? Try centering the back of the sofa on the fireplace. If the left-hand side of the sofa still encroaches, move it until there is about 8 to 12 inches between the edge of the sofa cushions and the beginning of the mantle. I'm not sure if there is anything in that area that would prohibit you moving the sofa in this direction, but it would make the room look much more open and would honor both your beautiful sofa and mantle much better. I think you could do better with wall color, although I am not an expert. With that Sofa and those windows you could do anything! How about a deep taupe, or milk chocolate? What other rooms with the color affect?

Just looked at your pictures again, and I actually think you could move that sofa down until the back of it aligns with the left-hand window? Or would that be too close to your kitchen?

I really like the lighter couch (and the floors) and think the walls are working well with the carpet. To add color/impact and to pull the room together, maybe add moss and/or rust colored pillows. Just a thought on room layout - would the sectional work along the wall where tv is and in front of stair case? It would mean you can then more easily converse with people in the kitchen and it would make the living area feel more spacious. I know a lot of people dislike a tv over the fireplace, but that would be the only option I think and place the iron piece over the couch. The low cabinet could be placed under the painting in the hall area - both centered and add a lamp.

Jenn, the kitchen is attached to this room and is white with light grey and white granite with flecks of garnet. Im thinking of accents in these colors. I'm going to try to move the couch a bit but unfortunately there are two walkways that I have to keep clear.
