If I were your designer I would do a valance, but nothing frilly. I would do a straight cornice, or a straight cornice with button. I would go right under your molding and only cover the trim and the window frame so it doesn't impact your view at all. Looks like you have some nice prints there you could go with. I would put matching cornices over all the windows. If you don't like the look of a cornice you could go with a kick-pleat valance. Straight lines, please no scallops.

We agree with Mona. A valance would add some texture and warmth to the room and soften the hard surfaces. You can still enjoy the view by adding treatments, think of it as framed artwork!

I would do a small short valance the whole way across. But before jumping into anything at all do more research by doing your own looking around in the stores at how some look and at some friends homes AND you can also go into model homes that are up for sale and look at how they are done. I wouldn't do anything just yet. Take your time and then when you decide it will be your decision and not someone else's and you will be so much happier with what you do cause YOU did it !!! A lot of my projects I buy things here and there and put them back and have them for a year before I actually start. When I helped my son out with curtains in his place the hardest for me was his kitchen. That took me over two months to find and decide on anything. Finally when I did they were so perfect and even heavy and I came up with so many different ways to hang them. Then I found something similar in color to match for the dining room. For the color to flow. I'm no pro, but I love doing it and have been doing it for many many years. I'm an old woman but I love decorating with just some common sense and time.

I am confused - the new window (over the counter?) looks bare? Or the old window (by your table?) looks bare?
