Yes, there's a foot of overhang on the other side for sitting

Is it already installed? I don't think you are going to be happy with seating on that side when you are using the cook top

I think you're going to want to change that as soon as you try to work there. There is a reason you put drawers on the prep side of the island and that is for ease of cooking, I hope you can change it.

Although your workmen may grumble, change it around now while you still can. Usually, islands aren't really secured all that well in the first place, so turning it around shouldn't be that big a deal, especially as it is on top of the flooring rather than the flooring be installed up to it.

I would generally say facing into the work area would get used more, but not necessarily, it depends on what's going to be stored there, if say dishes, utensils, place matts etc. etc. then the way you have it now would be more useful, thus depends on your circumstances etc.

The working side of cabinets should face other way hence the name working side you don't want people sitting where your working

Can I ask what the reason was? ie, to face the tv or something... Because I think it looks fine but surprised that there is seating on the other side, if you had a good reason it may make a difference. Also what will be behind there against the wall? If it's the fridge or something important it will definitely make for awkward seating.

Definitely needs a repositioning. This seems all wrong. The counter is probably very heavy and turning and tweeking could cause damage. Prepare for pushback from the installer guys.

No, my plan was to set up the seating to face living room so kids can watch tv and dining room to keep conversation with extra guests.

If its so the kids can watch the tv, I would turn it around and put a TV in the kitchen for them to watch. You are suboptimizing what should be a hugely functional space for the cook, for the sake of a TV.

I can relate to that, in fact I have bar stools at my peninsula and I always end up bringing my stool around to the other side so I can see everyone and converse. I think if you get stools that tuck under when not in use (like backless) so they're not obtrusive and if you made enough clearance for there to be seating on that side, and behind it is pantries and stuff, then it looks nice and it is indeed functional. It's your 'custom' kitchen.
