Word has to be bought and can be downloaded (I think) or do as I did and buy it on cd - not cheap though.

There as free wordprocessors similar to word just do a search for "free word processors". I haven't tried them but a couple are supposed to be quite good.

g'day alison,

i'm currently using someone elses computer until i can get settled and they have xp loaded so i asked about ms word there is a processor with xp look in the 'ms works' folder in 'programs' in the 'start' menu. it's not called word but it has a word processor.

did you do a search for freeware software? 'tucows', 'z-net' and 'd-net' are 3 places to look for freebies.

len

Yes, there is Microsoft Works. If you need something else, Alison, Open Office is a good program - free too.

Next question - are you aware that you probably actually need to make your own backup copy of Windows XP?

already been said by liatris - but you must get Open Office - do a google and you'll find it for free - an excellent word processor, spread sheet and database

have you got XP service pack 2 - a must for your security

Yes, if you don't want to fork out more cash to Microsoft, get OpenOffice. It's free and you probably won't be able to tell the difference.
